"Nathan’s proximity to the R.I. Philharmonic makes his position 'unique,' said Ruth Reinhardt, the R.I. Philharmonic’s music director. 'We have somebody who’s a fantastic composer, but also lives here, knows the audience, knows the community, knows what people are like and what this community will appreciate,' she added."

The R.I. Philharmonic premiered Nathan’s violin concerto in September.

Associate Professor of Music Eric Nathan, the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s new composer in residence, invited his students to the rehearsal for the premiere of his work “The Mountains We Climb.”

09/23/2026

"A boldly played premiere with a deftly rendered Beethoven symphony formed an excellent programming nucleus. The German-born Reinhardt is in her second season with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and it seems a fruitful match."
