On my mind today: color theory! It goes so far beyond the color wheel we learned in first grade. I have studied this so intensely for so many years, but was missing a really simple piece. A combination of videos finally locked it in for me. This was the final video that solidified it for me. So if you're into painting at all, and still have questions around color - check this one out. My missing piece was the subtleties in each color that lean between warm and cool colors.

Why it matters? The further away something it is, the cooler it is usually is. The closer it is - the warmer. And every shade leans warm or cool. Reds aren't automatically warm and blues aren't automatically cool. All of this matters when you are thinking in terms of perspective of what you're painting. You could get dimensions right - but misalign the warmness or coolness so you're painting will still look a little off. Your brain might not know what's off - but you will definitely feel something is off.

Update! Finished! This is on the drying rack now. This is on a 10x20 canvas, not the usual size I like to use but I've had this canvas laying around for like a year waiting for something that would work alright for it - so, it had to be done.

Easel update!! 🚨

I am so close to being finished with this piece! One more session and it should be there. But first, birthday party for my great niece!! Come back tomorrow and see the final piece!

From the first layers of paint to the final brush stroke, I wanted to capture the beauty that exists even when no one is around. This 16x20 mixed media oil painting is on the drying rack. What stage was your favorite?

Here's what's on my easel today. 🫟 This is smaller than I normally paint but will still turn out pretty cool. It will be 10x20.

What do you hear when you see this painting?

There is beauty in solitude and silence. This 16x20 mixed media oil on Gallery Wrapped canvas is called "Moon Dancer" and is hitting the drying rack today. It will be ready for sale in a few weeks!
