Summer may be clocking out, but we’re squeezing in one last trip to the beach. 🌊🔎

And naturally, our beach bag is a little more suspicious than most. For Labor Day weekend, we’re packing beach reads from authors who have been featured at Hamptons Whodunit:

🌊 DEAD OF SUMMER by Jessa Maxwell
💀 PIECE OF MY HEART by Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke
🏠 THE LAST HOUSE GUEST by Megan Miranda
🌴 EVERY LAST FEAR by Alex Finlay

Consider this your last call for sun, sand, and something sinister.

We have a new case developing.

Clue #1: Think Spanish moss, old squares, ghost stories, and a city that knows how to keep a secret.

Hamptons Whodunit is going somewhere new this fall, with our first pop-up event, and this is your first piece of evidence!

Any guesses where we’re headed? 👀

Some books make us suspicious of everyone.

Others convince us we’ve solved the mystery, let us feel clever for a few chapters, and then change everything we thought we knew.

These four thrillers kept us guessing with layered storytelling, shifting perspectives, and suprising reveals:

📚 THE QUIET TENANT by Clémence Michallon
📚 THE MIDNIGHT FEAST by Lucy Foley
📚 FIRST LIE WINS by Ashley Elston
📚 THE NOTE by Alafair Burke

Which mystery or thriller completely fooled you?

Leave your recommendations in the comments.

Trust us when we say some of the best festival moments happen offstage. 🙌💜

They happen while readers talk about their current read in a signing line, when an unexpected conversation leads to a new favorite author, or when people who arrived alone realize they have found their community. (You’re never alone in the book community.)

The conversations, discoveries, and friendships between the panels are part of what makes a literary festival memorable.

Tag who you’d bring with you for a weekend filled with mysteries, books, and lively conversations.

True crime asks audiences to engage with stories that happened to real people. That makes the way those stories are told especially important.

Thoughtful true crime can uncover injustice, preserve history, examine the systems surrounding a case, and give victims and their families the care they deserve. Shock can almost make the human beings at the center of the story disappear.

What do you look for before choosing a true crime book, podcast, or documentary?

Responsible reporting? Investigative depth? Historical context? Respect for the victims? A meaningful reason for revisiting the case?

We would like to hear where you draw the line between compelling storytelling and exploitation. 👇

The New York Times recently named The 50 Best Thrillers of the 21st Century, and nine books on that list were written by seven authors who have joined us at Hamptons Whodunit.

And S.A. Cosby didn’t just make the list once. He made it three times.

📖 S.A. Cosby: RAZORBLADE TEARS, BLACKTOP WASTELAND, and ALL THE SINNERS BLEED
📖 Attica Locke: BLUEBIRD, BLUEBIRD
📖 Megan Abbott: DARE ME
📖 Michael Connelly: THE LINCOLN LAWYER
📖 Jennifer Hillier: JAR OF HEARTS
📖 Anthony Horowitz: MAGPIE MURDERS
📖 Lisa Jewell: NONE OF THIS IS TRUE

We couldn’t be more thrilled to see so many members of our mystery and thriller community recognized.

How many of these nine have you read?

✨Behind every great mystery is an even greater team.

Hamptons Whodunit doesn’t happen by accident—it takes vision, planning, late nights, a hundred moving pieces, and a whole lot of incredible people making it all come to life.

To our founders, co-founders, honorary chair, assistants, volunteers, and everyone working behind the scenes—thank you.

You’re the reason the panels run, the guests arrive, the events happen, and the magic feels effortless (even when we know it definitely isn’t).

This weekend was unforgettable because of you! 💜
