Thom Chacon, the Durango singer-songwriter and actor, has a knack for bringing characters to life - whether they're on screen or living inside a song.

The songwriter world lost a hero today, but we all lost an icon.

Dolly Parton wrote over 3000 songs - including 25 number one hits - in her six decade career. She once said she tried to write a new song every day.

In 1972, she wrote both "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" on the same day.

She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001, received the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007, and earned Academy Award nominations for the songs "9 to 5" and "Travelin' Thru".

Her songs became part of the fabric of American music, and her legacy will live on in every song she inspired.

Rest easy, Dolly. And thank you for all the songs.
