LONG ISLAND EVENT VENUE OWNER ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGED “WEDDING VENDOR FIGHT CLUB” EXPOSED
A Long Island event venue owner was arrested Friday after authorities allegedly uncovered an underground fight club involving local wedding vendors competing for spots on the venue’s coveted “Preferred Vendor List.” Investigators say the bizarre operation may have been running for nearly three years, mostly after weddings ended and the catering staff went home.
According to witnesses, DJs, photographers, florists, videographers and even several limousine drivers were invited to what they were told were “vendor networking events.” Once inside, however, vendors were allegedly led to a makeshift fighting ring in the venue’s basement, where they were informed that only the winners would remain on the preferred list. “I thought we were there to exchange business cards,” said one photographer. “Next thing I know, I’m fighting a saxophone player from a cocktail-hour trio.”
Authorities say fights were organized by vendor category. DJs reportedly fought other DJs, photographers faced photographers, and one particularly brutal altercation allegedly involved two wedding planners and a balloon-decor company from Massapequa. Sources say DJs were prohibited from using microphone stands as weapons after what investigators are calling “the 2025 uplighting incident.”
The alleged operation finally unraveled after a 54-year-old florist showed up at an urgent care center with a broken nose, three fractured ribs and a boutonnière still pinned to his shirt. When doctors asked what happened, he reportedly answered, “I lost Saturday nights at the venue.” Police were contacted shortly afterward.
Investigators raided the venue Friday morning and reportedly discovered boxing gloves, folding chairs, a handwritten tournament bracket and a large dry-erase board reading “2027 PREFERRED VENDORS — SURVIVORS ONLY.” Police also recovered several envelopes containing cash and what authorities described as “an alarming number of business cards.”
The venue owner was taken into custody and faces several charges. Meanwhile, Long Island wedding professionals have reacted with shock, although at least three DJs have reportedly contacted the venue asking whether their October dates are still confirmed. One DJ who asked not to be identified summed up the scandal simply: “Look, I’m not saying it was right… but you have any idea how hard it is to get on one of those f****** lists?”
