Couple months away from 21 years of marriage. Worked cows this morning as a family with great help from family friends. No new curse words were invented, no apologies had to be made, and we talked to our cattle and moved them slowly and easily without rushing or screaming.

We have been impatiently waiting almost a year to see our newest creations. We AI’d a select few of our commercial angus and a bunch of our registered Black Angus to a registered Red Brahma bull named Rojo and our registered Red Angus to a registered Red Brahma Bull named X-Ray. All of this to create perfect replacement heifers that are true F-1s that are more sturdy, durable, and easy going cows that once bred back to one of our registered Angus, registered Hereford, or percentage Charolais bulls, will create a 1/4 ear calf that ought to do great in todays market.

First calf of the 2024 season hit the ground today. They are all due March 2nd. Gonna be a busy couple/ few days, but it’s my favorite time of year.

Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(left), and farm beef(right). There is an obvious visible difference between the two! But the differences don’t stop there!

1. You may notice in the picture the color difference. The store bought is pumped full of additives and water. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from either. Yes, it may have USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA. The meat in the package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from multiple cows. It could have came from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil.

2. The beef on the right is darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just scraps from multiple cows.

3. Buying your beef from a local Farmer/Rancher you are helping to buy a little girl dance shoes or a little boy baseball gear. Buying from the store just lines the pockets of the already wealthy meat packers. Let’s help each other. We help you eat healthy, you help us provide for our families.

Calving season has officially started and we had our 1st calf from Wrangler and one of our commercial cows.

All the Registered Red Angus and Registered Black Angus should start calving the 3rd of March. The commercial cows should start any day. The Longhorns did not want to wait and have been taking advantage of the great weather.
