University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) theater has a well-earned reputation for excellence and UMD theater students are known for their incredible talents! Now, UMD theater students and invited community actors have an incredible opportunity create an exciting New York City bound NEW MUSICAL, while working side-by-side with Broadway and Off-Broadway professionals!!
Duluth’s theatrical scene is set to experience a groundbreaking moment with Dunbar Hofmann Productions (DHP) launching an exciting new project. In January 2025, DHP will host a two-week workshop at Duluth’s Historic Depot, focusing on the creation of an original musical theater work, A Collectable Sensation. This marks a historic first for Duluth—an opportunity to witness and shape a new musical from its very inception.
This workshop will be a dynamic fusion of creativity and collaboration. DHP has joined a distinguished team of Off-Broadway and Broadway veterans who will work alongside Duluth’s most talented actors, singers, dancers, and technicians. Together, they will engage in a three-phase creative process:
Phase One: Collaborative exploration of the book, music, and characters, setting the foundation for the new musical.
Phase Two: Intensive rehearsals where the team will refine and adapt the work, potentially making changes to characters, songs, and plot.
Phase Three: Four FREE public performances providing a unique chance to experience the evolving musical and see how it transforms throughout the two-week period.
The workshop will take place within the Depot's vibrant arts and cultural hub, utilizing its rehearsal spaces and Minnesota Ballet’s Studio 4 for performances. DHP plans to partner with the Depot Theater, Minnesota Ballet, Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, BOLD-choice Theatre, UMD, and Lyric Opera of the North.
A small stipend will be rewarded for participation once casted and workshop is complete.
