Doylestown Art League

The Doylestown Art League is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. These include Monthly meetings, Members Shows & Art Classes and Workshops.

The League was founded in 1959 and seeks to promote art awareness and education through its activities.

DAL had its June Banquet at the Plumsteadville Inn. Many thanks to all those who brought in door prizes for our raffle and thanks also to Phoenix Art Supplies for their gift certificates. A fun time for all. We will be taking a break for the summer and will resume our activities in September. Have a great summer!

Our Spring Members Art Show Reception was held yesterday, Friday 24th. A great show, with a nice selection of artwork. Thanks to all who help put it together, and thanks to the United Methodist Church for hosting our event. The show runs until Sunday May 3, Pickup is Monday May 4 9:30 - 11:00.

Friday April 10, It was a lovely spring day for the DAL trip to the new Princeton Art Museum. We had arranged a docent tour for an introduction to these new facilities. Many thanks to Adria, our docent, for giving us a glimpse of the new building and its reimagined presentation of the extensive art collection that they have. Thanks also to Barbara Kolb who arranged the tour.

Our March meeting featured Sharon Shaw as our speaker. Sharon lead us through her journey from her rendering of venerable icons, whose origins are centuries old, to her modern interpretation of the materials in contemporary images using the gold and decorative motifs found in the icons.

The Doylestown Art League monthly meeting is on Thursday March 5 at 7:30pm at the James Lorah Auditorium on Broad Street in Doylestown. Our monthly meetings are free and open to the public.
Our speaker tonight is Emily Strong. Her presentation will be “Communication Through Contemporary Figurative Art”. Emily will give an in-depth exploration of her main body of work, a large Figurative Landscape series, as well as other aspects of her studio practice.

Great presentation, thank you Lexi. We were treated to a description and demo of her alla prima painting methods and techniques which are best summed up as “have some fun and enjoy the visual world around you.”
