Meet Kayla Smith! She is our private and workshop dance instructor!

"Hi my name is Kayla Smith. I am the new Musical Theater Dance Teacher at Luminescent Moon Theater Company. I have taken all styles of dance like tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, musical theater, lyrical, contemporary and modern. The arts have been a large part of my life from a very young age. Many of my family members are singers, dancers and artists. Maybe not famous ones but we all enjoy it nonetheless. I have been a dancer and performer for 17 years. I have done a number of musicals and plays as a performer or back stage crew learning the inner works of the theater life. I have been a dance teacher for 2 years and a demonstrator for 5 years, learning to interact with kids and how to work with them. I have learned so much through the years and hope to pass on my knowledge to others and help them reach for their dreams. I still have much to learn and hope to learn and grow along with my
students. I want to help them become the best performers they can be and prepare them for any challenges they may face. I can't wait to work with you all."

***Meet Our Fall Private Lesson Instructors***

(I will only be teaching sparingly throughout Fall! -Molly)

We are THRILLED to welcome Christine and Cory to our theatre and of course, our Abby will be continuing teaching online lessons! πŸŒ™

Christine Affolter is a native of the Canton, Ohio area.
First and foremost she is a mother of 3 children who also are also accomplished live theatre performers - two of whom are also students at the Jackson School for the Arts and plan to pursue musical theatre at the college level. Her heart is truly with working with youth and helping them to grow in their confidence and and talents and she is thankful to have shared so many years both helping coach and prepare her children for opportunities but even more so the amazing opportunities to have been cast in and performed in shows with her children.

Christine has been actively studying, learning, performing, and volunteering in many aspects of live theatre for over 20 years - from taking classes years ago as a teen and in high school, to the numerous workshops and classes offered through out the northeast Ohio theatres and educational programs. As well, she receivied a scholarship and is currently finishing up the NYU Performing Arts Industry Essentials program and plans to continue on with the next courses offered.
Christine has worked with youth of all ages both as an independent teaching artist /coach for private lessons and audition prep as well as having taught drama class for youth at a studio previously. She is blessed to share her passion for having fun and finding creative ways to bring stories to life on stage.
Some of her favorite past show performance credits include: Jesus Christ Superstar, A Christmas Carol: The New Musical, Charlottes Web, and touring for two years as Miss Spider in James and the Giant Peach as a part of Page to Stage an enrichment program that brought theatre to elementary schools in the area, to name a few.
She is also eager to learn and has experience in the many areas of theatre that productions could never be successful without, such as back stage crew, costuming, set building, lighting board, stage managing, etc and aspires to continue to learn and eventually would love to
direct.
Christine is looking forward to getting to know the students at Luminescent Moon and working with them them toward their goals and aspirations and helping them to grow into incredibly talented and confident performers. She believes in the in transformative power of the performing arts and specifically how it can shape the lives of youth and is honored to be a part of working with the students at Luminescent Moon.

Cory E. Ott: Cory has been directing theatre productions for over 10 years. He attended Otterbein University and holds his Ohio and Florida Elementary Teaching Licenses. Cory is currently the Artistic Director for The Wadsworth Footlighters and a Drama Club Advisor/Instructor for the Wadsworth City School District. He has also participated on and off stage in many capacities throughout NorthEast Ohio. Cory worked in entertainment at Walt Disney World in Florida and hopes to return once he has found a teaching position that allows him to share his love of teaching, theatre, and Disney! "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney. Cory looks forward to working with The Luminescent Moon Theatre Company and letting the stars truly shine with talent!!

Abby Witherstine has been performing for over 8 years! Her experience includes over 40 performances both locally and professionally. Highlights include Rocktopia on Broadway and it’s regional tour, Rhinegold with the Pittsburgh opera Festival, and the premiere of The Addams Family Musical [email protected] off Broadway among others. Abby has studied at Atlantic Acting School in NYC, private voice with Jeanne Lehman French, and master classes with many industry professionals. Additionally, Abby dabbles in writing which lead to an impromptu 5 minute play off broadway in which Luminescent Moon’s founder, Molly, starred! She is beyond thrilled and honored to be working with the Luminescent Moon Theatre sharing her knowledge and passion with others! She can’t wait to see where God leads and looks forward to getting to start an artistic journey with all of you!

Molly Marie is the owner of The Luminescent Moon Theatre. She adores every aspect of live storytelling, from performance to costuming to lights and sound and writing and everything in between. She graduated from Cuyahoga Community College with an Associate of Arts and concentration in theatre. She is a student of private voice in NE Ohio and a student of R&J Ballroom as well as signed with PCG Talent in Columbus. She has been involved in theatre since she was a little one, playing a hillbilly in a church production. A favorite role of hers was Faithful in The Pilgrim (Her Story) with Bright Life Players, where she felt she could share God's glory with the audience. She loves how storytelling builds imagination, teaches empathy, grows teamwork, and helps everyone be as luminescent as God made them. Her heart adores working with kids and seeing them soar onstage and in life. Molly will be taking a step back from teaching as consistently this Fall and into next year, as she is pursuing performance and ballroom dance in other avenues as she looks where God takes her in this journey of theatre. She will be subbing and possibly taking on one or two other students throughout the semester and new year.

Why I Started the Company

Hi there, I started the company, The Luminescent Moon just this year. My hometown of Massillon does not have a theatre company and growing up I had to drive distances to be able to pursue my passion. I have gained experience and knowledge to be able to pursue my passion and not only that, but hopefully encourage others to pursue their’s, giving them another opportunity here close to their home, my hometown. Our rehearsals are based at St. John’s Church UCC in Massillon, Ohio, with performances on the move, including the Lions Lincoln Theatre in Massillon, Ohio. The possibilities are endless here in Massillon, Ohio, just remember to let yourself reach for those stars and shine as bright as the moon like you already do. :)

The Luminescent Moon Theatre Company is seeking a student Assistant Director for the upcoming production of β€œ12 Angry Jurors.” The Assistant Director will help with ideas, stage set-up, promotional videos, direction, filling in for cast members who may be absent during practices, etc. We would prefer a high school student from the Doylestown area, but if none apply, we will accept those from other areas.

This is a volunteer position (hey, the director and cast are working for free also!). Practices start toward the end of July with production happening the beginning of September. If interested, first familiarize yourself with β€œTwelve Angry Men” and then contact The Luminescent Moon Theatre Company or come to the auditions on Sunday, June the 5th from 6-8pm.
***Audition Announcement***

The Luminescent Moon Theatre will be performing at the Summit Stage Fest with the Akron Civic theatre this summer on July 9th between 12:00-5:00 p.m.

We are going to be previewing our production of Waltz with Me. Waltz with me is an original play written by Gavin Cerrato and Molly Marie.

Lottie decided to sign up her husband, Archie and herself for ballroom dance lessons. Not only do they learn how to move elegantly on their feet, but hopefully they become wiser together as they take classes with their quirky dance instructor. They dance through their new marriage, hopefully, with more rhythm than before.

We will be performing Waltz with Me in full either this year or later in the year. Those dates are being decided. However, we do need a full cast to perform our Act 1, at the Akron Civic this summer. This is a one performance event on July 9th.

Rehearsals are going to be based around all schedules of cast, due to the nature of production.

The roles below are the roles we need to fill.

If you are interested in auditioning or learning more about this opportunity, please email me at [email protected].

If you want to audition, please send a resume and headshot to [email protected] to schedule an audition at our theatre.

Lou: (50s-70s) He is a quirky dance instructor. He is very energetic.

Charlie: (20s-30s) He is the boyfriend of Della. He is an excellent dancer and full of pizazz.

Della: (20s-30s) She is the girlfriend of Charlie. She is supportive friend and fabulous dancer.

Gerald: (60s and up) He is the husband of Maisey. He is wise and kind, and great on his feet.

Maisy: (60s and up) She is the wife of Gerald. She is kind and loves dancing as much as she can.

Improv is not easy. You have to take the step to put yourself out there in front of others on a stage and off, to take risks for storytelling and a hope to evoke specific feelings (last night..LAUGHTER!). We are proud of our improv workshop and how they performed hilariously for their audience last night. πŸ’š
