The Martin Theatre

The Martin Theatre Nestled in the heart of Douglas, Georgia, The Martin Theatre welcomes guests with a warm, historic presence reminiscent of the town's rich artistic roots.

Located on Ashley Street in downtown Douglas, this historic 1940s theatre has been restored to its original art deco splendor. Now The Martin Centre, may be used for performing arts as well as large sales meetings, conferences, and seminars. The Martin Theater opened in the 1940s and closed as a movie theater in the 1970s. The theater is now known as the Martin Centre and is used as a performing a

rts center. The building is also available for meetings and conferences. Seating was reduced from 1,357 seats as a movie theater to it’s current seating of 750. The Martin Centre features seating for 750, three dressing rooms, theatrical lighting and sound system, and audio visual equipment

This week, we had the honor of speaking with the Douglas Lions Club about The Martin Theatre and the exciting season ahead.

The Martin is entering an important season of renovation and restoration, and we know this work will take community support, partnership, and shared belief in what this historic theatre can continue to become.

One thing about speaking with the Lions Club is that their heart for service connects so naturally with the heart of The Martin. At the end of the day, this restoration is about service too…making sure future generations have a place to gather, perform, celebrate, learn, and belong.

The Martin is not just a building we’re trying to keep open.
It is a legacy we are trying to keep alive and a future we are trying to build together.

At our private sponsor gathering in May, we shared an honest look at where The Martin is today (and where we believe it can go next).

Here’s the big picture:

We are preparing for a major restoration season following damage from Hurricane Helene, along with long-term preservation and infrastructure needs.

Because of the scope of the work, The Martin will enter a quieter season for the remainder of 2026 as restoration planning and renovation efforts move forward.

But this is not just about repairs.

It’s about preserving the history of this theatre, strengthening the organization behind it, and preparing The Martin to serve Douglas, Coffee County, and the surrounding region for generations to come.

We also shared our refreshed branding, renewed vision, and commitment to building stronger systems, better communication, meaningful partnerships, and more consistent momentum moving forward.

The Martin does not belong to one person.
The Martin belongs to this community.
The Martin belongs to you.

We are grateful to everyone who continues to believe in what this place can become.

Our final show of the 2025-26 season takes the stage tonight with Mainstreet Dance Studio.

We’re grateful for every artist, audience member, volunteer, renter, sponsor, and supporter who walked through our doors this year.

Behind the scenes, we’re already dreaming, planning, and building toward what’s next. Bigger opportunities. New experiences. More reasons to gather together in the heart of downtown Douglas.

Big things are happening behind the scenes at The Martin! 🎭

We’re excited to share that The Martin has been selected to participate in the Georgia Arts Innovation Network (GAIN) through Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute.

GAIN is a statewide initiative designed to help arts organizations strengthen operations, explore innovation, build sustainable growth, and deepen community impact through collaboration and strategic development. (innovate.gatech.edu)

For us, this is more than a program.

It’s an opportunity to learn, connect, and continue building a future where The Martin serves not only as a historic theatre…but as a cultural anchor for Douglas, Coffee County, and beyond!

As we continue stepping into this next chapter, we’re grateful for every person who believes in what this place can become.
