We said goodbye to my sweet Frances earlier this month 😔💐🪦

She was with me from 2 months old, and made it halfway through her 16th year- an impressive age for a dog of her size. She had a good wild life, with years and years living in the middle of nowhere with me, eating lots of organ meats and roadkill and salmon heads and moose scraps and everything good i could give her.

She was with me from a tiny town in Kansas, to a winter in my Mom's attic in central VA, to my homestead in Missouri (we slept on a cot together for the first year and a half or so - she was a professional little spoon). She came with me to upper Michigan where she got to smell wolf and bear tracks, and to the middle of Alaska where she miraculously grew an undercoat and weathered winter days from -30 to-60f with me in her trusty sweater and felt booties.

She ran next to my bike every day as i worked along the docks in Ketchikan Alaska, and provided free therapy to hundreds of tourists who were missing their pups back home. She lived in my car with me as we travelled the country pre-covid, trying to find our new home. The two times i left her with beloved family to travel on my own for a couple weeks, she clawed through doors trying to find me.

Though she judged me with somber eyes on days i stayed in bed eating junk food, she was an incredibly intelligent and adaptable companion on our many unexpected travels.

I'm so grateful for the many dear friends she gathered here in Virginia, from the wonderful crew Edible Landscaping L.L.C. to all her fans Farmers Market At Ix and the people who visited her The Beautiful Idea - you all brought her so much joy, as a social butterfly of a dog stuck with a deep woods recluse of a person.

Thank you for filling her life with good company and loving attention. I know she'll live on not only in my heart, but in the fond memories of hundreds.

Good thing we're all practicing nurturing community, meeting each other where we're at, extending grace when possible, and encouraging each other to be vulnerable in the face of adversity. 💅🏻😌💖

What are we burning this fall? So many options...

Just remember, meaty/fatty things (*cough*oligarchs*cough) are better composted to avoid unpleasant odors. Besides, all the bugs in the soil deserve to feast too.

Team up with your favorite decomposers this season and have fun making space for new growth🍄‍🟫🌱

In the three years that we've been on Faire we've sold to 47 different retailers in 22 states and 1 other country. 🤯

Of those, 35 have placed an order within the last year. Over the next couple weeks, you'll see our regional map posts highlighting all the shops that have bought our artwork! Don't see one in your area? Comment here with what shops you think share our vibes, and then go tell them that if they stocked Critter Butts, you'd buy it! We'll reach out to them too - but it makes an impact if they know their customers are hoping to see our merch.

I'm not gonna start tagging shops in this post, it'd be too hard to choose which to include when the limit is 20.

Also please don't judge my map regions- choosing where to put those lines was the hardest part of this whole process. 😂

Don't forget to thank a squirrel for an oak tree today

Blessings and bountiful treats to those who struggle with object permanence, without you (squirrels) we wouldn't have nearly as many nut trees 🙏🏼
