for this week at stadtcinemaclub, we we’ll be playing “Bottle Rocket” 🚀

Bottle Rocket”, Wes Anderson’s feature debut, follows a group of friends with big plans and very little idea of how to pull them off. Led by Owen Wilson as the overly ambitious Dignan, they stumble their way through small-time robberies, romance, and a lot of hanging around. It’s a laid-back, funny movie about friendship, figuring things out, and wanting your life to feel a little more exciting than it actually is.

for our weekly stadtcinemaclub film, we’ll be playing Spike Lee’s “25th Hour” — perhaps the most slept on Spike Lee joint? it seems like this one always gets skipped.

With just one day before starting a seven-year prison sentence, Monty Brogan spends his final hours of freedom facing the choices that led him there. “25th Hour” is a gripping drama about friendship, regret, and consequence. The all-star cast includes Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Barry Pepper, Rosario Dawson, Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

for our weekly film series at stadtcinemaclub, we’ll be playing Fernando Meirelles/Kátia Lund’s “City Of God”

*City of God* is a Brazilian crime drama that follows Rocket, a young aspiring photographer growing up in a violent neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The film shows how poverty, drugs, and gang violence shape the lives of the children around him, especially the ruthless gang leader Li’l Zé. Its fast-paced editing and energetic camerawork make the story feel chaotic and intense while showing how violence becomes normalized across generations.
