Mindful Movement with Shanzell

Mindful Movement with Shanzell Founded by tap dancer, educator, and performing artist Shanzell Q.

Mindful Movement with Shanzell is a performing arts initiative that advances tap dance and vernacular movement through innovative arts education, cultural preservation, and community-centered performance. Mindful Movement with Shanzell, LLC is a transformative dance and wellness space dedicated to promoting balanced living, cultural preservation, and community connection through the art of movemen

t. Page, our mission is to utilize life-affirming dance works as a medium for self-expression and a catalyst for community responsibility. At the heart of Mindful Movement is the belief in the profound joy and resilience that dance—particularly tap dance and vernacular movement—can bring to individuals and communities. Tap dance, is more than just a physical activity; it is a powerful form of expression that carries the stories, struggles, and triumphs of generations. Through its rhythmic patterns and call-and-response traditions, tap dance serves as a bridge between the past and the present, allowing us to connect with our ancestors while creating new narratives for the future. Growing up with a mother who has slight Cerebral Palsy profoundly influenced Shanzell's passion for advocacy. This experience shaped her commitment to making this art form accessible to all, fostering inclusion, accessibility, and resilience. Mindful Movement is a space where individuals of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of cognitive or physical abilities, can explore the healing potential of dance, reconnect with their cultural roots, and find joy in movement. Through Shanzell's practice, she is deeply committed to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of tap dance and vernacular movement. These art forms are not only about steps and rhythms but are vessels of ancestral knowledge passed down through generations. In her work, she honors the legacies of those who came before us by teaching their stories, techniques, and philosophies to the next generation. By doing so, she makes effort by contributing to the continuation of our cultural traditions and ensure that the wisdom of our ancestors remain alive and relevant.

What a journey.

Mindful Movement with Shanzell was chosen as a recipient of the FedEx Entrepreneur Fund, and the support has been next-level. From mentorship to financial strategy to branding gems, it's been a full-circle reminder that our stories matter and deserve to be resourced.

Now and over these past few months, I continue teaching, creating, dreaming up new work, building partnerships from the ground up, and still dancing in my living room just to keep the rhythm alive.

Thank you FedEx and Hello Alice for seeing me. I am so moved and so ready for what's to come.
