Just read while reading another artist post and had to share; “Never dilute yourself to please others” . Such a powerful statement.
That resonated so much with me. I’ve done that for so much of my life that it became habit and instead of speaking up I would shelter or be the yes girl- always trying to make everyone else happy.
Thankfully I learned in my adult years, through my own journey and as a mental health provider- you must always stay true to yourself and not do things because you are afraid you will be rejected or disliked. I realized you can’t make everyone happy.
Saying no or having different opinions doesn’t mean that you are wrong or the other person is wrong -it just means that it’s ok to disagree and move on..
If another person has negative feelings about the way you think or otherwise “Let Them” . You can’t please everyone and nor should you!
The key is to stay true to who you are while showing kindness and consideration. Never sacrifice your core values to make someone else feel good- because you will end up resentful and unhappy.
I lost the post to tag to whoever it was that said it, but I agree 💯. I believe we can share differing opinions and still love one another, work together, have fun together- it’s only when character, moral and ethical codes are challenged that you must stand up for yourself and be true to your own standards of conduct - and just walk away “Let Them”- if you have not read that book by Mel Robins, I highly recommend it.
I’ve always taught my daughter to be kind, considerate, and respectful to others- But in that process not to sacrifice what she believes just to fit in, or fearing rejection. Be brave and strong, and don’t ever let yourself be pushed to do something that doesn’t meet your own moral or ethical compass- even when it’s family you can have boundaries that support your values, time, and energy.
Life is short- your energy and time are valuable. Take care of You, be true to You.
