A tour of the Northwestern Palace in the Nineveh Plains of Assyria in modern day northern Iraq. These photos are important as the ancient city where this palace is situated, Ni**od, was severely damaged by Islamic State terrorists in 2015. They destroyed many of its artifacts and structures as part of their campaign against the Assyrian cultural heritage. However, some portions of the site remain and efforts have been made to preserve what is left and to restore parts of this important archeological site. There are ongoing efforts to protect and rebuild it.
