Hey all ages supporters! Molly Brandt here - I'm the person managing this initiative! I know it's been a while since you've heard from us! I want you to know, THIS EFFORT IS STILL IN FULL FORCE. I'm NOT EVER giving up this fight until a realistic solution for small venues and young fans in Des Moines. I will not stop until the under-21 population is given safe and culturally relevant entertainment options - Drake students I'm talking directly to you. The reason our team has been M.I.A. -- we're working behind the scenes to facilitate conversations between Drake University administration, various neighborhood associations, the Chief of Police, and the City of Des Moines. It's a slow process. People are extremely busy. And an election just occurred. Nothing happens right away. BUT: I'm waiting to hear back about some conversations between the DM Police and the neighborhood / Drake folks. Hopefully by the end of 2017 or early 2018, we will have an amendment signed-off by the Chief. We can then turn a drafted amendment over to the City Council, who will then vote on the new ordinance. Let me be clear: I am extremely confident and optimistic about finding a solution that will work for the police, the city, and most importantly, the young music fans of this city, and frankly everyone else who cares about where Des Moines is going. I've been fighting this fight since February, raised over $3,500, gathered a long list of supporters, and talked with numerous stakeholders, city leaders, young folks, and venues. Continue to share your stories about how this ordinance has affected you. Let me know if you have a story to share about how this affects YOU. Email me at [email protected] if you want to chat about this with me! Thanks to everyone who is still supportive of this, who have helped me in various ways, donated money, volunteered, etc. Let's do this.
