As I sit down to start on what will toe the line between my last project of 2023 and my first of 2024, I take a moment to reflect on how much support I’ve been shown in the last 365 days. The hoops I use were purchased by my mom in an estate auction because I told her I wanted to start a business. Using a hoop stand I was given as a birthday present from a friend who knew my wrists were sore from holding them. Using scissors I was given and which were recently honed with the perfect stocking stuffer scissor sharpener from my partner. My stuffed ornaments are made of not just my own scraps, but bits donated to me by other crafters in my life so that they could be given a second chance. The commission I’m working on is for a friend of a friend who wouldn’t have found my page without them resharing it.
It’s been a nebulous year and I feel like I’ve both done a lot and not nearly enough. But I’m finding myself and what I want this business to be. And I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the love and support of my community. My friends and family who are rooting for me every step of the way.
I say that my heart and soul goes into each thing that I stitch. But it’s not just that. They’re filled with the love of a thousand small gestures. So even though this is the trend I wanted you to know the many hands that have touched my work aside from just my own.
