🐍 VOICES FROM THE KREWE

Nicolas Carmona | Voice of Silas Piper

This week’s voice from the Krewe is Nicolas Carmona, who first crossed paths with Tongue of the Serpent author and artist Loveday Funck when he joined the Something Else improv team.

That connection started onstage, with shared scenes, strange premises, split-second choices, and the kind of trust improv builds very quickly. We feel incredibly lucky that Nico decided to bring that same creative spirit into our strange little band.

Here’s Nicolas in his own words:

“Originally from Colombia, I’ve spent the last half of my life in Louisiana, where I live with my amazing wife and two beautiful daughters. By day, my career centers on analysis and programming, but off the clock, I’ve always been drawn to all things nerdy, from Dungeons & Dragons and deep-reading to video games and improv.

Joining the voice cast for Tongue of the Serpent and performing with my two improv teams, Something Else and NerdProv, gives me the ultimate creative outlet. It lets me merge my inner nerd with my artistic side and brings a rush of inspiration to everything I do.”

Nicolas now lends his voice to Silas Piper, a musician who survived the Hungry Bells and came back changed, carrying their resonance in his bones. Silas is charming, reckless, funny in the face of danger, and never quite as safe as he seems. His music can become refuge, warning, or invitation, sometimes all at once.

There’s something especially fitting about an improviser stepping into Silas’s shoes. He’s a character built around instinct, rhythm, risk, and the occasional decision that probably should have been reconsidered several seconds earlier.

We’re very glad Nico chose to wander into the Krewe.

🎪 The carnival is waiting.

On September 10 at 11 AM, Tongue of the Serpent returns with Season 3, Episode 36: “Carnival Time.”

At the Devereux house, Sabine has come home, and Lucien is given something the dead rarely offer: another chance to speak with the sister he lost.

But across New Orleans, Renard Blackwood is walking back into the place that made him.

The lights are burning.
The midway is closing behind him.
And somewhere in the shadows, Raven is waiting.

Some families leave scars.
Some leave ghosts.
Some never really let you go.

The dead remember everything. So does family.

🕯️ “Carnival Time” premieres September 10 at 11 AM.

In Tongue of the Serpent, New Orleans isn't just where the story happens.

It remembers things.

It keeps things.

And every now and then, it answers.

The people at Morningstar would probably be better off if it didn't. 🐍

**Voices from the Krewe**

This week’s featured artist is Brad Martin, a voice actor, stand-up comedian, and longtime lover of improvisation and storytelling. Brad first met author Loveday Funk when they joined forces with six other performers to co-found the improv group Something Else. Years later, their creative paths have crossed again through the world of storytelling and performance, and they now enjoy running into each other at Sunday stand-up open mics.

Brad recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Loveday on Tongue of the Serpent, lending his voice to Leo Blackwood, the patriarch of the Blackwood family. He is truly honored and grateful to have been given the opportunity to add his voice to Loveday’s project and help bring one of her characters to life. Drawing on his background in performance and improvisation, Brad brings a love of character, emotion, and authenticity to his work behind the microphone.

Whether performing stand-up onstage, developing his skills as a voice actor, or chasing the unpredictable magic of improvisation, Brad is passionate about finding new ways to tell stories and connect with an audience. You can find more about him on his Facebook comedy page, Brad Martin Comedy, and someday, with any luck, he might even get around to adding some actual content to it.

New Orleans has ghosts. Demons. Witches. Old bargains that should probably have stayed buried.

And then there’s the Krewe of the Morningstar, doing their best to deal with all of it while making several questionable decisions of their own.

New episode drops on Thurs, Sept 4 at 11 am.

Salt and Bone
Season 3, Episode 35

Sabine Devereux has returned from the mirrors changed, more herself than she has been in far too long. But freedom comes with truth, and truth comes with consequences.

As the Krewe begins to rebuild, a new threat turns its attention toward the Angel Egg, and an apology centuries overdue arrives with a warning they cannot ignore.

Set in haunted New Orleans and steeped in ghosts, infernal bargains, old magic, and complicated families, Tongue of the Serpent continues with another dark chapter.

**VOICES FROM THE KREWE: JEANNE SERIO SMITH**

Meet **Jeanne Serio Smith**, the voice of **Sabine Devereux**, *Tongue of the Serpent’s* resident ghost girl, occasional source of supernatural complications, and one of the youngest members of our very unusual New Orleans family.

Jeanne says she was born under the dual signs of **Pisces and Smart Ass**, which may explain why comedy found her. She began performing stand-up in 2023 after agreeing to do a ten-minute set as a favor and has been making people laugh ever since.

She is a founding member of Boomerang Comedy Theater’s short-form improv team **Fish Tahco**, performed with Boomerang’s long-form team **Something Else** in 2025, and was previously a member of **Pod People**. She also regularly writes and performs with the **Mid-City LIVE Comedy Troupe**.

In 2025, Jeanne and collaborator J. Broux founded the independent improv team **DEI**, which has appeared in collider shows throughout South Louisiana.

Her work extends beyond comedy and improv. Jeanne has also pursued acting, participating in Baton Rouge’s **48 Hours** project in 2024, appearing in the Louisiana Theatre Festival’s acclaimed production of *Olivia’s Dream* in 2025, and taking part in the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s **24-Hour Theatre Festival** in 2026.

Away from the stage, Jeanne is the proud mom of two adult children and an enthusiastic traveler who takes every opportunity she can to head abroad. Italy holds a particular place in her heart, and she has spent the last eight years on an ongoing quest to master the Italian language.

Voice acting was something Jeanne had wanted to explore for years, which makes us especially happy that she found her way into the Krewe.

As **Sabine Devereux**, she gives voice to a girl whose story stretches far beyond the circumstances of her death. Sabine can be sharp, vulnerable, stubborn, funny, fiercely loving, and very much present despite technically being a ghost. Jeanne brings all of those layers to her and has helped turn Sabine from words on a page into a living, breathing part of the *Tongue of the Serpent* world.

We’re delighted to have Jeanne among the **Voices from the Krewe**.

🎙️ **Voices of the Krewe: Julie Daniell Gibson | Sister Belladonna & Celeste**

Meet **Julie Daniell Gibson**, the voice actor behind **Sister Belladonna and Celeste** in the supernatural audio drama *Tongue of the Serpent*.

Born and raised in Central Texas, Julie is a lifelong lover of stories in just about every form. She loves reading, movies and television, cooking, baking, singing, and reciting favorite movie and television dialogue with her daughter. Right now, they’re watching *House of the Dragon* and bingeing *Once Upon a Time*.

Julie also brought some voice experience with her when she joined the Krewe. She previously served as the “on hold” voice for companies she worked with and narrated case studies for a company podcast.

In *Tongue of the Serpent*, Julie currently brings **Sister Belladonna and Celeste** to life, and she’s looking forward to exploring even more characters as the story continues.
