Project Rebound

Project Rebound Project Rebound invites Daytonians to be more engaged in the lives of Dayton youth by stepping up as volunteers, mentors, and coaches.

Project Rebound challenges you to connect with Dayton children and teens through the sports and activities you love. It was selected at the UpDayton Summit to be a 2017 UpDayton Project. Why?
- spark a movement among Dayton’s young professionals, college students, citizens to be bigger difference makers in the lives of local youth

How?
- use sports to attract Project Rebound supporters (volunteer

s, mentors, donors)
- use sports as bridge-builder across generational, cultural, racial divides
- build partnerships with youth organizations who have existing programs that need more support or new energy

What?
- Support existing youth programming by helping them recruit volunteers, coaches, and mentors
- Raise money and other resources to help more Dayton children have access to youth sports
- Provide intentional pathways for Project Rebound volunteers to grow into larger and more permanent mentoring/coaching roles
- Placemaking - create and enhance youth athletic venues alongside the children and neighbors who will enjoy them

Check out this great picture from last week!

Artist James Pate showing Nahlah and her older sister Sue Lonnie how to paint the mural on the new Project Rebound basketball court in the Roosevelt neighborhood.

I asked James what art he'd been making recently and he said he'd been really busy. One project he mentioned was a new mural at the Buffalo zoo. When I returned home I went online to find out more about James Pate's recent projects. I found a lot of news articles about what James Pate has done and what awards he has won. The Buffalo zoo project was an 18 foot mural at the new Amphibian and Reptile Center. You can see it here: https://buffalonews.com/2019/05/22/buffalo-zoo-reptile-house-komodo-dragon-opening/

I couldn't find a James Pate website or page or Instagram page. If I just missed it, please post the link below. I suspect that James Pate is one of those artists who doesn't promote himself. He just keeps doing good work.

Major thanks to Ernst Concrete! They’re helping donate the concrete to put in the bleachers!
