The Davis Art Studio Tour Preview Exhibit opened on Friday, May 8 at Pence Gallery. Huge thank you to Natalie Nelson and the team at Pence for curating a fantastic show. We had a great turnout. Hopefully we’ll get lots of visitors next weekend for the tour!

Artist Deladier Almeida opens his studio to the public in the 2025 Davis Art Studio Tour.

Almeida has lived in California since the mid-1980s, earning his degree from the University of California, Davis, in 1990. Trained by renowned artists Wayne Thiebaud and Roland Petersen at UC Davis in the 1980’s, Almeida’s work marries the restrained quality of Thiebaud’s sleek style with Petersen’s more gestural brushwork, and is inspired by other Bay Area artists including David Park, Elmer Bischoff, and Richard Diebenkorn.

He has exhibited his work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Crocker Art Museum, the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, the Hilbert Museum of California Art, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, LA Natural History Museum, the Caldwell Snyder gallery in San Francisco, the Campton gallery in New York City, the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont, the Obsession of Art Gallery in Bergen NL and Amsterdam, and the Albemarle Gallery in London. His work is currently represented by galleries in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Bergen, in the Netherlands.

Marieke’s DeWaard joins the 2025 Davis Art Studio Tour, displaying her work and process at the Davis Arts Center.

DeWaard’s focus on form and composition is driven by her interest in architecture and nature. Working from her own photographs and often incorporating found objects, Marieke’s architectural oriented work reflects the building style of the country in which she resides.

Having lived in France, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan, Marieke’s work captures a wide variety of cultures, yet retains a signature style founded in spatial relationships and well balanced compositions.

Marieke did her formal art training in the Netherlands, supplemented by a Master’s degree in Art Education from Kutztown University, Pa.

Her pieces have been purchased by many individuals as well as companies, galleries and museums. Marieke taught at many schools, including the prestigious Glassell School of Art in Houston. She resides in Davis, California, where she taught at the Craft Center of the University of California, Davis.

Artist Pinar Brummer opens her ceramic studio, , in this year’s Davis Art Studio Tour. Visitors can spend time meeting and chatting with the artist—and seeing the space where the creativity happens.

“As a potter, I love everything about clay. I like the immediacy of the pottery wheel. Now and then, my mood demands creating every day objects, like mugs or condiment bowls. On different occasions, however, I take great pleasure in just ‘being’ in my studio, where I am at my table to hand-build patiently, laboriously and lovingly. On those occasions, I never know what kind of a vessel I will end up creating but feel perfectly content nonetheless. Some of my best pieces come out of days like this where I let clay take the lead.

I find inspiration in everything I see. As an autodidact, I am fond of experimenting on ways to incorporate elements of things that I find enticing into my work. A haute couture dress from the 90s on display at a museum, the stones I collected from a beach walk a few years ago, the reflection of a stream flickering on a wall, elements of Japanese architecture, or a line from a favorite poem are all equally beguiling to me in their different ways.

I am my best and truest self when creating and for that reason I am grateful for my studio where I am able to devote time into creating everything that I crave and feel completely at home in my own skin.”

Artist Karen Fess opens her art studio to the public next month in Davis Studio Art Tour, allowing visitors behind the scenes on how a work of art like hers comes to life.

“I love color and try to emphasize that in my artwork,” Fess said. “Quite the feat, when an instructor in the one college painting class told me that while I drew beautifully I totally lost it when I moved into color. My artwork trends towards realism without being photo realistic. Most of my smaller paintings are painted wet on wet, in one sitting.”

Artist Roshelle Carlson opens her personal art studio for this years Davis Art Studio Tour.

Roshelle is an artist who creates reduction linocut letterpress prints, zines, artist’s books, and jewelry under the name .

She also writes poetry, designs totes and t-shirts, paints the occasional mural, and enjoys photography.

Born and raised in Yolo County, she teaches art classes to all ages, and has a B.A. in Art, emphasis in Book Arts, from UC Santa Barbara.
