🪹 Storks are among the most iconic birds found in Poland. They are well-known for the exceptionally long journeys they undertake twice a year. They spend the winter in warm climates, most often in African countries.
🧭 The longest routes reach up to 10,000 kilometers. The journey, which lasts several months, allows them to cover an average of 200 kilometers per day. Thanks to GPS transmitters, the birds' migration routes are precisely tracked.
➡ One of the most famous storks is “Krutek,” who comes from Krutyń (North-Eastern Poland). A few days ago, he managed to reach Poland, though it was no easy feat. As reported by the Masurian Landscape Park, he was found by a roadside in a state of extreme exhaustion and was subsequently taken to a specialized stork rehabilitation center for observation.
💙 The bird has now fully recovered and has begun repairing his nest after the winter. Storks are subject to very strict protection in Poland. Since 2003, May 31st has been celebrated in our country as White Stork Day.
