Happy New Year's Eve! On this exact day, a 158 years ago several slaves gathered to thank God. New Year's Eve of 1862 was their last day as slaves.

Slaves stayed up all night to watch their first moment of freedom come. As a result, millions around the world began referring to New Year's Eve as Freedom's Eve and Watch Night.
