Out of Africa … FINALLY!!
FOURTEEN months ago, on a trip to far NE South Africa, Cody Ellison found a “bush market” bursting with exquisite local “applied art”. Boldly carved/polished masks (some painted, some highly-polished to rich, glowing browns), figurines of local animals (giraffes, hippos, rhinos, elephants) carved from both stone and wood, intricately-beaded animal sculptures.
This remote spot is usually frequented by local residents from Pretoria and Johannesburg. The local vendors, unused to international shipping, combined with Covid complications had a rough time getting the items shipped.
HAPPY ENDING: in these first few days, gallery visitors’ reactions have been soooo positive.
HINT: The beaded pieces are being snapped up especially fast. Gallery hours this week: Wed/Thurs: 12-6, Fri/Sat: 12-10, Sun: 12-6. More info? Call 214-924-0271 ANY day!
