Meet our returning lead!

Shauna Holloway considers it miraculous that she is reprising this role after performing it in 2024 at the Bath House Cultural Center, and wants to thank Barb and Kurt tremendously for the opportunity. She also wants to thank Bess for writing such an important and truthful piece, Reis for being fearless, Ashley and Kari for their understanding and leadership, and Becki for going on this journey with her.

When not being Big Mouth Thunder Thighs, she can often be seen acting and directing at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, as well as at Rooftop Productions, where she is newly a producer. Acting credits for Rooftop include Clown 2 in The 69 Steps (nice.), Dr. Kelly Settler in Triassic Trek (2024), and Mack/Hyde in Jekyll and Hyde: Deranged. Selected acting credits for Pocket Sandwich Theatre are Patty Waxend in Captain Blood: The Pirate Melodrama, Bessie Banger in The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Sunny Polito in Captain Phantasm vs. The Nefarious Dr. Noir. Directing credits for Pocket Sandwich include melodramas The Final Adventure of Hercules and Sweeney Todd: The Fiend of Fleet Street, and for Rooftop Productions, Triassic Trek (2019) and Handos: The Mans of Fate (upcoming).

This show was so popular we’re bringing it back! Big Mouth Thunder Thighs opens this month and tickets are on sale now!

Big Mouth Thunder Thighs, by Bess Welden, is a solo vaudeville about body and food that intertwines memoir storytelling with a highly theatrical, unpredictable, and outrageously entertaining variety show featuring: a trash-talking puppet, stand-up comedy, singing, dancing, spoken-word poetry, plus five “Death-Defying Acts.” It’s an endearingly funny one-woman extravaganza about how we deal with our inner critics and what it takes for us to accept ourselves.

The production opens August 28. (Sneak Preview on August 27) and plays through September 13 in the Stone Cottage at The Addison Performing Arts Centre.

Audition time and we want to see you there!

Casting Notice: All roles are for actors of Hispanic/Latine heritage for this production.

Characters:
Little H - (25ish - Hispanic/Latine) An aspiring private dick, mourning the death of his father Big H. He is a cynical detective seeking the truth about his father’s death, navigating the mystery in classic rapid-fire 1930’s mobster slang.

Rae Chio - (24ish-Latine/Hispanic) Was Big H’s gal Friday. Now works for Little H. She moved to Los Angeles from Mexico with the dream of becoming a nightclub singer. In love with Little H. In the show, she sings the old Bessie Smith song, “Send Me To The Lectric Chair”.

Ghost - (50ish-Latin/Hispanic) The ghost of Big H, Little H’s father. He was a big man and, in life, a successful private dick. Wears a Sydney Greestreet-style white suit. Either needs to play a saxophone or look like he can play a saxophone.

Claude - (48ish-Latin/Hispanic) Big H’s brother, Little H’s uncle - Engaged to marry Little H’s mother, Gertrude. Very much the scheming Uncle.

Gertrude - (48ish-Latine/Hispanic) Little H’s mother. Big H’s fast-talking, tough-walking, hard-drinking mother who is caught in the power struggle. Engaged to marry Claude whom she’d dated long before marrying Big H.

Paolo Niro - (50is-Latin/Hispanic) A rival private dick. He is a shadowy underworld figure.

Reynaldo Mori/Yorick - (28ish-Latin/Hispanic) A coroner. A Peter Lorrie type if Peter Lorre had a Spanish accent mixed with a bit of Snor Wences. Also voices YORICK, a skull.

Welcome to the Elsinore Detective Agency, where business is dead—literally. "Little H" is nursing a cheap rye and a dying legacy when his first real client materializes in the shadows: the ghost of his father, blowing a mournful saxophone and demanding justice for his own murder.

The prime suspect? H’s slick Uncle Claude, who didn't waste a second taking over the family racket and marrying H's mother, Gertrude. Backed only by Rae—his sharp-tongued secretary by day and smoky speakeasy chanteuse by night—Little H sets out to shake down his own treacherous family to uncover the truth.

Will he crack the case, or just crack wise? Packed with hard-boiled betrayal, smoky jazz, and deadly dark comedy, Noir Hamlet proves that digging up family secrets can be a real killer.

Our next show is…..Big Mouth Thunder Thighs

We love this show and what it says about diet culture and body image. In an age of MAHA and GLPs, we feel it is ever more important to laugh at ourselves and emphasize the point that all bodies are different. This is a funny, sometimes bittersweet, and ultimately heartbreaking look at how a society fixated on health and healthy bodies causes all of us to question what a healthy body actually looks like.

This was the last show our dear friend Reis McCormick worked on as an artist. She was part of our beginnings and we bring this show back to highlight her incredible contributions to Pegasus Theatre throughout her life.
