Gaylord O'Con Artist Although introduced to watercolors by Michael Borne national signature artist and architect, I always strived to create my own art.

I am a watercolor artist with over 20 years experience with “Signatures’ from Southwestern Watercolor Society, Texas Watercolor Society and Texas & Neighbors Society. I think my Architectural-Engineering work experience, admiration for world class artist and my personal love for design influenced my approach as I studied and taught myself to paint in watercolors. Watercolors quickly became my only

medium. I also studied with architectural photographers learning the art of composing compositions and the love for color and architecture. I have studied with Michael Borne, Naomi Brotherton, Joseph Zbukvic, Jeannie McGuire, Nel Dorn Byrd, Keiko Tanabe and Alvaro Castagnet to mention a few national artist. My interest in art started as a young boy watching my grandmother painting the Louisiana pine forest scenes with homemade acrylic paints. Then later in life I watched and painted with my mother with oil paints. I became even more interested in art and design during my past 25 years of work experience as the managing partner of a Dallas based architectural-engineering firm where I met and work with some the most noted national and international architectural designers. Since starting my career in watercolor, I have been fortunate to meet and paint with many national and international artist. I began my watercolor painting career over 20 years ago. I love simi-loose representational realism paintings. My art interest is in cityscapes, vehicles, landscapes, bridges, and waterscapes. I also enjoy painting at my lake property and from my bass boat on Lake Fork in East Texas. My pallet consists of my favorite colors from many different manufacturers. My three most favorite colors are green yellow (green), dragon blood (earth tone) and ultramarine (blue). My brushes are Escoda made in Spain and have a very sharp point for detail work and have the ability to carry a lot of wet pigment for long fast strokes. I paint on Arches 140 # cold press watercolor paper exclusively. I enjoy teaching beginners and intermediate watercolor classes either in my studio or on location. I have conducted demonstrations for many Texas watercolor societies, including Cleburne Tx, Irving Tx, Fort Worth Tx, and Weatherford, Tx. I provided commission paintings by request. My paintings are hanging in homes and commercial buildings all throughout USA and Internationally.

Beautiful painting day with my best friend in the field.

M and I painted at "Spring Creek Forest Preserve" today in the beautiful weather and sun shine. The birds were out in huge numbers.

My painting "Tahoka Shadows" has been selected by juror Ken Call to be exhibited in 50th Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Exhibition 2025. This acceptance awards me the WFWS Signature status and is extra special to me since the Awards Gala and Reception is at TEXAS TECH in Lubbock associated with the West Texas Watercolor Society.
