My first real gouache painting 🥲

This verse was a standout verse at our church’s ladies getaway and I knew I wanted to remember it. One day I was messing around with some stuff and this imagine came to mind and realized it would be so fun to pair it with this verse! Seize life… the Bread of Life - Jesus! 🥖

It’s also fitting for me to use these paint supplies on this specific verse. I am the person that as a child would save all my stickers “for something special.” They never got used! I had been saving these paints for about 2 years and decided recently that I needed to just go for it and open them up!

Technique is: beginner 😅 But I absolutely love the “perfectly imperfect” look that gouache affords, so I capitalized on it!

There’s finally lots of ideas rolling around in my head for upcoming shows and illustrations. But there’s only so much time, because I’ve got a full life - and I don’t mind 🥰👦🏻👧🏼🧒🏼👶🏼

Art Car Kids Zone 2025 vs 2026!

I loved playing at this event again this year!
(1) because it’s so fun and an honor to do it!
(2) it’s so fun to look back on all that happened from last year to this year—namely: an entire pregnancy and a little baby girl 🥰
(3) this rabbit turned into a guitar! 😜😂

Musicals are a huge part of my lore 🥲 2 weeks after I was born, I stared as baby Jesus in the church Christmas play - screamed the whole time 😂 from watching musicals as a child at home, to being in musical theater in junior high and high school, I loved it all! But after college, I took a long hiatus and didn’t see very many live productions. Then a I became a mom and it was even less 😆 Visiting NYC with some of our best friends in 2024 and seeing my first shows on the actually Broadway brought it all back 🤩 I text Chris a few weeks ago with the link to this and said “let’s go!” He’s always down to see a production too as he was raised on the Nutcracker with his sister being a dancer.

We loved Back to the Future: The Musical! Thank you Theatre Under The Stars for a wonderful night!

Last year I had the immense pleasure to MC and perform in the Kids Zone at the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art Art Car Parade, and they asked me back this year! She’s singing along 🥰 The last time I had practice sessions with a baby, I had zero performances on the calendar and was just trying to make a handful of YouTube videos. Now, I’ve got places contacting *me* to play (as opposed to me cold-calling and begging them to let me play there 🫣🤣). What a cool thing God has allowed me to do these past 6 years. And now baby sis is a brand new test audience! ☺️

Also this was a Beatles song I didn’t even know until I saw the movie Yesterday, and I loved how they used it at the end of the movie. Then I heard version of it and loved it even more. I’ve only gotten to play it live once or twice but I hope to bring it into the rotation more 🎶

Back in the saddle 🤠

To be real, the logistics of being a kids performer and having an infant that I’m exclusively pumping milk for is a little wild 😅 but we makin’ it! Last Thursday my sweet husband took baby sis to work for a couple of hours so I could have a lot of fun performing for the sweetest families at Seabrook United Methodist Church ☺️

First time back to work today ✨ the girl on the left was unsure this day would come 😅 this pregnancy was my toughest physically and mentally. I couldn’t fathom how to make it through the next week, let alone make plans for after I had the baby. And I had made peace with the thought that, if for some reason she was a really difficult baby, that it might be a much longer time before I could get back to work.

But she’s here now and she’s literally the easiest and happiest baby! We had some issues beyond our control come up with feeding, but even through that she was a happy girl 🥰 She is a gift from God we didn’t know we needed 🥹 Now we are in a groove and I’ve got places contacting me to perform 🥲 and it hits different knowing I thought I might not get to again 🥲 I love being a tiny slice of your kids’ childhoods! Let’s sing together soon 🫶
