I recently had the privilege of teaching a full-day professional development workshop for 45 dedicated art teachers of the Socorro Independent School District. It was an honor to share my invisible gridding method and specific media techniques with educators so invested in their craft. The experience was made even more memorable by a wonderful tour of El Paso the night before. I was truly inspired by the focus and energy the teachers brought to the studio, as these fundamental techniques will help them inspire the next generation of students. Here is a quick look at one of my students working through the final details of their piece using our signature grid technique. Utilizing white Prismacolor pencil on deep black mat board creates such a striking, high-contrast study in value and precision.

I’ve been holding back from sharing this for over a year, and I’m finally excited to do so.

About a year and a half ago, I had the opportunity to help introduce pastels to FC Dallas soccer player Sebastian Lletget. During that time, he shared his dream of creating a portrait of his late sister, Vivi.

With his permission, I’m honored to share the beautiful culmination of his work. This piece is a true testament to his dedication, heart, and perseverance. Sebastian was incredibly kind throughout the process, and I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and care he put into this meaningful masterpiece.
