The Connecticut Office of the Arts is thrilled to announce that we are welcoming Tekowa Omara-Otunnu to our team as a Program Associate. She will be focusing on Arts Education in the state through programs that serve to make Connecticut a leader in the field.

Tekowa is a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in Political Science and Human Rights. She has an extensive background in non-profit work, focused on social justice advocacy, youth development and education. She is also a musician by training and trade and a self-taught visual artist. Working as an independent artist since 2016, she has been on a national tour, released several independent EP’s, an audio-visual LP and album; and founded two arts and healing collectives focused on creating safe spaces for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists. She is a lover of the arts, food, travel and nature. In her spare time, you can find Tekowa hiking, riding horses, or making music.

While moving on from one career into the next can be tough, especially when we do so reluctantly, it is always best to frame such transitions in a positive light. I mention three "perks" to resigning and moving to a new job, but what are some other benefits to changing careers?

Changing careers is often a bittersweet moment, but one that we should always approach positively and with an intention for self-reflection and improvement.

A few brief updates... I am in the process of revamping the site, so you may see quite a bit of change over the coming days.

Also, I've begun scheduling interviews, tours, and reviews for a new component of my site. If you are a Connecticut-based restaurant, artist, craftsperson, event planner, etc., and would like for me to write up a piece for you, shoot me a message!

That said, a new scheduling piece will be made available on the website shortly as well so you can pick a time most convenient for you.

The Arts and Craft Festival (...or fair?) in Wethersfield was surprisingly colorful despite the grey skies. A special thank you to the three artists I featured in today's blog!

Despite a deceptively gloomy sky, the vibrant artists I encountered at this year’s Old Wethersfield Arts and Crafts Festival more than made up for it.
