Class: Bundle Dyed Silk Scarf

Instructor: Jessica Seifert with The Nail and Needle and Grown at 48

Learn about the magic of plants as you use a combination of locally grown fresh and dried flowers and leaves to create a beautifully dyed silk scarf. Participants will briefly learn about mordants, best fabrics for dyeing, what plants to use and how to lay out plants to create a design on fabric. You'll leave with a sample dyed piece on cotton and a 35"x35" dyed Habotai/China silk scarf. Limit to 12 people. Please note any plant allergies on sign-up.

Date and Time: October 2nd, 6-8pm

Location: CBHS FACS Classroom

Fee: $35

Cut Bank First Friday classes are taught in partnership with Cut Bank Schools Adult Education Program and Cultivate Cut Bank. All participants must be 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in Cut Bank High School.

SMALL TOWN THEATERS MATTER!

A road trip across the American West in search of small town theaters! THE LAST PICTURE SHOWS is an intimate documentary focusing on small rural communities and the business owners that fight to keep their theaters alive! Hundreds of theaters were visited - including Missoula, Polson, Libby, Anaconda, and Shelby in Montana - as they discuss the struggles and hardships of a changing industry that makes it more and more difficult to survive...and yet some have found a way to thrive in this ever changing cinema environment! A documentary dear to our hearts, and one that we hope our audience can resonate with as well!

Our 5th season is upon us, and the October classes will be released very soon!! We are changing class sign-ups ever so slightly to best accommodate everyone. Google Forms will now be the way to sign up for classes this season. With each class a link to Google Forms will be provided. Click the link to sign up and your instructor will reach out to you soon. Be patient as instructors have lives too so response might not be immediate. If you have trouble, please reach out through email and we can get things sorted. We can't wait to get the season started!!

Let's welcome Quilts Happen as a new host for the 2026-27 season!

A small-town quilt shop for all your quilting needs - fabric, tools, notions, patterns, and long arm quilting! You're all familiar with Quilts Happen and Barb's Card Boutique from classes but now Barb has a permanent classroom space! Boy, are we excited for her!!

Here's a little bit from Barb:
Hi! I’m Barb Claybourn and I am the owner of Quilts Happen - our little quilt shop in Cut Bank. I have been a quilter and a crafter for many, many years. I love to sew, of course, but I also love other crafts like card making, cross stitching, and making seasonal decor. I absolutely love sharing crafts with others, and I’m super excited because we now have a whole classroom dedicated to classes!

They're in the wild!!!

Thanks to Shannon Johnson Art & Photography and Kim Connelly Winchell for painting these dumpsters during the Cut Bank's Annual Lewis and Clark Festival!! Each dumpster adds a little something special to our community.

The goal of the Dumpster Paint is to bring art into unexpected places, to encourage the community to see our surroundings differently and foster a shared sense of pride and responsibly for public spaces.

The Dumpster Paint would not be possible without the support of the Cut Bank Chamber of Commerce, Cut Bank's Annual Lewis and Clark Festival, and City of Cut Bank MT and city John Damberger. This project is funded by the Cut Bank Community Foundation 2026 Community Grant, the Cut Bank Racquetball Association, LeAnne and Brian Kavanagh, and public and private donations.

We are already planning for next year! Our focus of placement next year will be in north south directions off Main Street or leading into town, near parks and possibly the different school locations in highly visible locations. Our goal is to paint 4 dumpsters next year. If you're a business, civic group or individual interested in sponsoring a dumpster next year, please reach out. Artists receive a stipend of $400 to purchase paint, supplies and the rest goes towards their time. If you'd like to apply to paint a dumpster next year, let us know!
