When you see yourself like a child at play, it's remarkable how much fun you can have doing your work. I thought this was just a concept I wrote in my book a few years ago but then I heard a talk from Donald MacKinnon at UC Berkeley on Creativity Research. His research concluded that "Creativity is not a talent you are born with. It's a skill you can develop. Nothing kills creativity more than the fear of making a mistake. Creativity is a way of operating and living. Those who "play." In fact, those who were deemed "most creative" by their peers and bosses at work did not have a higher IQ than the others. They simply had developed a method for getting themselves in a particular mood, a way of operating, a mode of play. You can not be fearful if you're at play, if you are worried the direction in which you are moving can somehow be wrong, something you shouldn't have done. As Alan Watts puts it... "You can't be spontaneous within reason." It was so cool to see that one of my core ideas for my new book Ask Think Imagine was validated by research at UC Berkely! You see, when I would go to lay tile or build a shelf at an Airbnb, I noticed Danielle would say "Are you going to play at the rental tonight?" Yup! Now, let's be honest. Every time didn't feel like play. However, often it truly did. She saw that I had FUN going to do WORK. Why? It was creative work. It was work that was making something of nothing - well, broken, singular parts. Isn't that art? Taking a bunch of singular raw materials and forming them into something beautiful. This book, Ask Think Imagine, has been a journey. I've been writting it for 5 years if you consider the first time I changed the name to Ask Think Imagine from Citizens of Heaven. It was about 10 years ago that I started writing Citizens of Heaven. Then, about 5 yr ago, I noticed some patterns. Mindsets that hindered artists were some of the same mindsets I heard while in Pastoral counseling. People who were sabotaging their marriage were thinking through the same lies! This book will not only liberate you to create your best work, but also give you the theology you need to ENJOY this little life that we have and in doing so, bring a lot of joy to others. It's time you ASK LIKE A CHILD, THINK LIKE A STEWARD, and IMAGINE LIKE AN ARTIST. You are designed by your Maker to be all three!

7 DAYS LEFT! When I started writing Ask Think Imagine, it was originally called Citizens of Heaven. It was all about miracles. Then I started to see a pattern emerge. The most faith-filled Christians who were creating ministries and innovative products were also seeing physical miracles and emotional miracles, all within the context of serving their local church and community. More patterns emerged from people I was counseling - fears and mindsets that looked awfully familiar to me from my studio time - working with artists who were too afraid their ideas weren't any good. The same lies of shame that were preventing fantastic creative work were the same lies being told to the believer who works in admissions and attends Sunday worship. This book aims to get CHRISTIANS FREE from childhood wounds that limit their best work.

Too many Christians fall into their routines and forget the privilege of inviting the Holy Spirit into their work. Just like the disciples, we are invited to wait for the Holy Spirit to inspire our work of art. When the disciples listened to Jesus' voice while fishing, their profit increased 100-fold. They had to get another boat to bring in all the fish! By the way, Jesus knew they were selling those fish to feed their families. Sometimes we miss things like that. Then they discovered that relationships were miraculously restored within seconds as the Spirit breathed life into what would otherwise be mundane conversations. The Spirit breathed so much LIFE into their ministry and day-to-day that physical bodies were healed! What would it look like for you to believe that God can breathe LIFE into YOUR day-to-day?

10 DAYS LEFT! ASK THINK IMAGINE is a book that has been brewing in my heart for years. I started to notice patterns that limited creative people from making their best and most authentic work, seeing those same mindsets in those who were getting counsel from me as a pastor. This book is aimed at helping the Christian who feels somehow stuck in shame or fear of failure or simply... stuck ...and they don't know why.

God's Word says that He is able to do more than we could ever ASK THINK or IMAGINE! The Extended Version of the book is 600 page thesis on this:
