Congratulations!!! SHEROES of mine!!

This morning I stoped by Iowa Cover Crop in Greene County to deliver them a Conservation Leader Award for their work to expand and accelerate conservation across Iowa. I toured their operation and we had a great discussion about Iowa’s leadership in conservation and cover crop adoption.

We’ve gone from a few thousand acres of cover crops a decade ago to nearly 4 million acres today! 🌱

WIND Howling like a banshee out here in rural IA - next blizzards, I’m planning better - going to stay with someone (or invite people to stay with me) so I don’t have to fret about the wind and cold all day!! And the dangerous whiteout conditions!
We used to make homemade doughnuts, pots full of chili, play board games and hope for snow days (instead of weekend blizzards). Might as well enjoy the time out!!
I counted 8 people in my neighborhood living alone out here - too far apart to be of any help to each other and all heating huge space ….. silly humans we are!!!

GIS River Alert this morning:
The monitor at Hwy 4 /Raccoon River just south of Jefferson (and the golf course and sewer plant just to the north and west of the monitor. Might be something to keep an eye on. I have it alerting me at .5+ …… river is really low, even w an estimated scant inch rain in the past week.

And this from RRWA friend Dan , who is tracking such things:
Hi Chris,
The gage at Jefferson rose from 84 to 689 cfs since Sunday. Looks like the headwaters near Storm Lake got 2 inches on Friday and that nitrate-rich water (now 8.5 mg/L nitrate in Sac City) is just now reaching Jefferson.

From hanging in barbed wire in the pasture to hanging with Kay Neumann at Save Our Avian Resources - SOAR - for a couple of weeks, this Barred Owl seemed to know Jim was there to help! Thanks too to Bob Rye for handling the wire cutting!
