🥔🐾 THE DAILY POTATO REPORT: EPISODE 5 — THE POTATO HAS TAKEN OVER! 🐾🥔
DAY 5. FOURTH MORNING WAKE-UP. ELEVEN WEEKS OLD TODAY.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are officially FIVE days into life with Tater Tot, and I regret to inform you that the potato has assumed full ownership of this household. 🤣
He runs around like he’s been paying the mortgage for years, knows exactly where the food is, and has absolutely ZERO concept of being the new guy.
At this point, WE are the guests in HIS home.
And let me tell you… this tiny, fluffy, four-legged baked potato has been BUSY. 😂
🛁 THE GREAT POTATO WASH OF 2026
On Day 2, we decided our little spud needed his first bath.
Now, most cats act like you’re trying to murder them when water is involved.
Not His Royal Taterness. 👑🥔
This little man SAT in the warm, bubbly water like he was at a five-star luxury spa.
Face wash? Absolutely.
B***y scrub? Why, thank you, peasant.
He was practically waiting for someone to bring him a cucumber eye mask and a tiny glass of sparkling water. 🤣
And because Dad happened to be showering when Tater was finished, I did what any reasonable mother would do…
I TOSSED THE POTATO IN THE SHOWER WITH DAD. 💀😂
Tater didn’t even flinch.
Walked one little inspection lap in front of Dad, decided the accommodations were acceptable, and marched right back out.
SIR. YOU ARE A CAT. PLEASE ACT SURPRISED BY SOMETHING.
Then came drying time.
He was shivering, but did he want to sit wrapped in a nice warm towel?
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
We attempted the hair dryer, which he tolerated for approximately 0.8 seconds before deciding he had more important potato business to attend to.
Spa treatment: 10/10.
Drying service: 0/10. Would not recommend. 😂
🐈⬛ THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE THREE CATS
We have progress!!!
TROOPER: Has officially accepted that the tiny orange intruder isn’t going anywhere.
He doesn’t even care that Tater sleeps in bed with Mom and Dad!
Every morning, Trooper conducts what I can only describe as Feline Combat Training 101.
Today’s lesson?
How to smack your brother through the cracks of the couch.
Trooper on top. Tater underneath.
SMACK. SMACK. SMACK.
It’s basically Whac-A-Mole, except the mole is a potato and the instructor is a black cat. 🤣
SMOKEY: Meanwhile, our distinguished senior gentleman would like everyone to know he DID NOT APPROVE THIS ADOPTION.
He observes from a safe distance like a grumpy HOA president monitoring suspicious neighborhood activity.
Tater attempted to play AND cuddle with him on the recliner.
Smokey’s response?
“Absolutely not. Please remove this orange inconvenience from my personal space.” 😂
We’re giving him time. It took Smokey about two weeks to accept Trooper, so we’re optimistic that the Potato Acceptance Committee will eventually approve Tater’s membership.
☀️ BAKED POTATO MODE ACTIVATED
Our little guy has discovered SUNSHINE!
A few afternoons now, he’s found those beautiful warm patches of sunlight coming through the windows.
And OH, does he love them. 🥹
He sits there with the sunshine on his tiny face, looking like the happiest little baked potato you’ve ever seen.
Unfortunately, this child is approximately 8 tons of fur stuffed into a three-ounce body.
He’s basically a walking winter coat.
So his sunbathing sessions are short because we don’t need an actual OVERBAKED POTATO. 🥔🔥🤣
🔔 WHERE’S THE POTATO?!
We have discovered a slight design flaw in owning a cat with approximately two inches of leg.
His NAME TAG IS TOO BIG.
It literally drags on the floor and trips him.
Imagine being so vertically challenged that your own identification becomes a safety hazard. 💀
So for now, we locate him by the tiny bell on his collar.
Some families track their children with GPS.
We track ours by listening for a miniature jingle somewhere near the floor. 😂
🐭 POTATO UNIVERSITY: EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
At 11 weeks old, Tater has already mastered several important life skills:
🥔 Knows where the food is located.
🍽️ Recognizes a plate. And apparently believes all plates deserve his immediate attention.
🐟 Obsessed with toy fish, mice, and little felt balls.
🎾 Can entertain himself with ONE toy for a solid 10 minutes. Which, frankly, is a longer attention span than some humans I know.
🏠 Has explored the kitchen, dining room, living room, and bedroom. The rest of the house remains uncharted Potato Territory.
And yesterday, we introduced him to TECHNOLOGY.
Caden was on babysitting duty while Mom and the sisters went to college class and browsed Spirit Halloween.
Naturally, Caden introduced his little brother to an app where cats chase mice on a phone screen.
Tater LOVED IT.
And now?
EVERY TIME HE SEES A PHONE, HE LOOKS FOR THE MICE. 🤣🤣🤣
Wonderful.
We have an 11-week-old kitten with a SCREEN ADDICTION.
Thanks, Caden.
Next week he’ll probably be asking for his own iPad and a subscription to MouseFlix. 💀
We’re also noticing that he seems to recognize either his name or Mom’s voice.
Not sure which one yet.
But there’s definitely recognition happening!
Or maybe he’s just thinking, “Ah yes, the lady who controls the food supply.” 😂
👨 DAD HAS POTATO WITHDRAWAL
Yesterday was Dad’s first day back at work since bringing Tater home.
And apparently, he spent the day BRAGGING ABOUT HIS POTATO.
He missed him ALL DAY.
This is the same man who has talked about wanting a Munchkin cat for SIX YEARS OR MORE.
And now he’s officially THAT GUY at work.
Other men: “How was your weekend?”
Nick: “LET ME SHOW YOU MY POTATO.” 📱🥔🤣
And honestly? I love it.
❤️ BUT HERE’S THE PART THAT MAKES THIS WHOLE STORY SO SPECIAL…
We still can’t believe we actually did this.
Because Tater Tot wasn’t part of the plan.
Mom had every intention of waiting another YEAR and eventually adopting a Maine C**n.
That was THE PLAN.
But Dad had been talking about Munchkin cats for years.
So one evening, Mom started researching their personalities, health considerations, and what life with one might look like.
And the more I read, the more I thought…
“Huh. This actually sounds like a really good fit for our family.”
And let’s face it.
When it comes to cats, Mom ALWAYS wins. 🤣
But this time? Dad deserved to have “his” special kitty, too.
Then everything just started falling into place.
The timing. Finding Tater. Meeting him. The adoption process.
Nothing felt forced. Nothing felt complicated.
It just… happened.
Like this little guy was somehow supposed to find his way to us all along.
And there’s one more thing.
For nine years, we’ve said we’d NEVER bring home another orange-and-white cat.
Not after losing our beloved Pooh Bear.
He was so special, and the thought of another kitty resembling him was something we just weren’t ready for.
But then came this tiny orange-and-white floof with folded ears, miniature legs, and the personality of a Labrador retriever.
And instead of feeling sad, I find myself smiling at the little reminders of Pooh Bear.
Not because Tater replaces him. He never could.
But because after nine years, it’s really beautiful to see little pieces of those familiar colors around our home again. 🧡
Maybe some things aren’t meant to be planned.
Maybe sometimes a little unexpected love comes waddling into your life on four ridiculously short legs.
And suddenly, you can’t imagine your home without it.
SO HERE WE ARE.
Five days in.
One tiny Potato.
Two big brothers adjusting to their new roommate.
Three kids completely smitten.
One dad proudly showing off his Munchkin at work.
And one mama who was supposed to wait another year before adopting another cat. 🤦♀️😂
