Paper doesn't have to be flat...but it definitely photographs better when it is not behind glass.🤨 These framed paper castings are made from recycled paper and cotton linter. The backgrounds are formed on a paper making frame and deckle that is layered with forms shaped out of foam to give the paper three dimensions. In the case of the ocean waves, the paper is pulled off the frame and gently accordion-folded before allowing it to dry. Additional paper pulp is formed in silicone molds, dried and added to the background. Many more 3-D framed paper castings in a variety of themes are available at the Pocket Shops in Conover. Paper cast mittens will arrive in time for Christmas. Stay tuned for an additional project that combines paper casting with book ornament style miniatures....

Rolling paper beads for many years while making paper bead jewelry paid off when I figured out I could use the same technique to make many of the miniature embellishments for for my book ornaments. Both the shape of the paper being rolled and loosening it after it is rolled forms mugs (rectangles to cylinders) and teacups and cauldrons (triangles to barrels). The same triangle, with a scalloped scissor edge, formed Christmas trees when the rolled bead is extended after formation. A blunt ended triangle bead, when loosened, formed pots for my potted plants. Creativity isn't always about coming up with something completely new. Sometimes it is just about taking what you already know, and pushing it a bit farther.

Ribbon Candy and Peppermint Sticks, Gingerbread houses and cookies and milk...nothing tempts the sweet tooth more than Christmas. Luckily, these book ornaments are all sugar free and will join a wide selection of my book ornaments at the Pocket Shops in Conover and the Artists Market at Wayne County Arts Council in Goldsboro.

Mid century modern is one of my favorite architectural and decorating periods. I just love the asymmetrical houses, wonky geometrics and the cats! I'm bringing these Mid-century Modern book ornaments to the Pocket Shops in Conover very soon...before we hit the next mid-century...which may be closer than you realize😳.

Details, details, details...it's half the fun in creating these miniature book ornaments. Milk and cookies with nostalgic themes, mugs of cocoa in the country or flutes of champagne in Paris, pots of paint brushes next to miniature Christmas paintings, nostalgic Christmas albums...oh what fun it is to ride through my imagination some days. Every ornament is one-of-a-kind, but a large variety of themed ornaments are always available at the Pocket Shops in Conover and the Wayne County Arts Council Market Place in Goldsboro. Check these businesses out on FB or in person next time you are in the neighborhood.

Just having a bit of fun with these sports themed book ornaments. Don't blame Santa if by the 25th hole, the golf ball falls into a wreath! You'd be tired too after being up all night. Our scores would all be a bit crazier if we did it in the snow!

It has been such a hot, hot, hot week in North Carolina. Time to think some COOLER thoughts...like winter sports. I had great fun fashioning these skis from a "beard care" box, ski poles from paper and toothpicks and the fish splashing in water... make that, splashing in hot glue. Don't tell the fish!
