October is almost over but I do want to point out that it is both Breast Cancer Awareness 🎀 Month and Menopause Awareness Month, and these are two topics that are very personal to me.
As a woman navigating menopause and someone who lost her mom to breast cancer, I’m reminded of just how important it is to prioritize our health, even when life gets busy.
For me, that means staying active, prioritizing strength training, keeping up with my healthcare appointments, and making sure I get my annual mammogram and breast MRI as recommended because I’m considered high risk. I had my mammogram 6 months ago and my annual MRI about 2 weeks ago.
It also means listening to my body as it changes and giving myself grace through this season of life. If you’ve been following us, you know I’m a runner 🏃♀️ and I’ve had to pause my runs due to hip pain. So what am I doing instead, walking with a weighted vest.
Because as women, and especially as Latinas, we spend so much time taking care of everyone else that sometimes we put ourselves last.
So, amiga, this is your reminder: YOU matter, your health matters, and being proactive matters.
Have you scheduled your screenings? Are you checking in with your doctor? Are you listening to what your body needs?
Let’s take care of ourselves, not just for the people we love, but for ourselves, too. ¡Porque nosotras también importamos! ❤️
