Great idea

BREAKING 🚨 A viral claim says Dutch engineers installed solar panels on the underside of a highway bridge in Vlaardingen, using sunlight reflected from the water below to generate electricity. It describes a supposed pilot project at the Broekpolder viaduct, including lightweight monocrystalline panels, structural adhesive, microinverters and power supplied to motorway infrastructure.

The broader idea is technically plausible. Solar panels can receive reflected sunlight from water and other surfaces, and researchers have investigated unconventional locations for photovoltaic installations. However, I could not find credible evidence that this particular installation exists.

The location itself is real. The Broekpolder is a large nature and recreation area in Vlaardingen, and the area is bordered by the A20 motorway. Official information from the municipality and Dutch infrastructure authorities confirms the surrounding infrastructure, but does not document the claimed underside solar installation.

A former Indiana sheriff’s deputy is facing criminal charges after investigators say he repeatedly used a police surveillance system for personal purposes.

Prosecutors allege Skylar Thompson searched his girlfriend’s license plate 2,055 times through the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department’s Flock camera system between December 31, 2025 and August 2, 2026.

Every time officers access the system, they’re supposed to provide a legitimate reason. Thompson allegedly entered “City Planning/Traffic Analysis” despite never having duties involving either.

The pattern was caught during an internal audit, and the sheriff’s department referred the matter to Indiana State Police. Thompson is no longer with the department and has been charged with Level 6 felony official misconduct and misdemeanor fraud.

This is exactly the concern critics raise about enormous automated license-plate databases: a system built to let police locate vehicles can also give an individual officer extraordinary power to track someone’s movements.

In this case, the safeguards worked eventually. But according to prosecutors, they worked only after more than 2,000 searches had already happened.

The sample is 2,560,035 American children, pulled from electronic health records and linked to birth-parent data, followed to age 8.

The design is what makes it different from the studies that came before. Comparing vaccinated and unvaccinated kids is messy, because families who vaccinate on schedule also tend to see doctors more, which means their kids get screened more, which means autism gets diagnosed more. That's a bias, not a finding, and it's tripped up observational work on this for years.

So the researchers anchored on age instead. They took every child who got a first MMR dose between 11.5 and 24 months and compared outcomes within that window.

Result: a hazard ratio of 0.97, with a 99% confidence interval of 0.91 to 1.03. That straddles 1.0, which means no detectable association in either direction.

Then they ran a check on their own method. They repeated the whole analysis using a different shot given at the same ages, the pneumococcal booster, one nobody claims causes autism. If hidden bias were inflating results, it should have shown up there too. It came back at 1.01, also null.
