Glass Axis is a non-profit, public access glass art facility and gallery. We have well-equipped studios for all forms of glass art including stained and fused glass, torch and hot glass blowing and sculpting, and neon art. We hold hundreds of hands-on classes, demonstrations and public programs each year, including glassblowing and lampworking. Glass Axis is a unique space for special events and we have hosted everything from catered, sit-down dinners to weddings, and unique memorial services.

Metamorphosis: Drawing with Frit
Kate Clements
Fused Glass
Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 12
10:00am - 6:00pm Each Day
$850
In this workshop students will experiment with frits, often considered an accessory glass, and make it the centerpiece of the work. We will utilize simple tools to create complex patterns and images. We will work within a range of temperatures to capture textures and gestures of the hand, experiment with unconventional slumping to create form, and light and shadow to create depth. Demonstrations and discussions will show how to push the boundaries of fragility, possibilities of scale, and the potential of material transformation. Students should bring reference images to translate into glass.

Bio:
Clements received her MFA in Glass from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture in Philadelphia and her BFA in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. She has been awarded residencies at Studios Inc in Kansas City, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, Pilchuck Glass School, S12 Gallery in Bergen, Norway, and the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City. Clements’ work has been exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum (WA), Delaware Contemporary (DE), Houston Center of Contemporary Craft (TX), SOFA Chicago, Urban Glass (NYC), and S12 Gallery (Norway.)

We are getting down to the wire for our big move to a wonderful space just a few blocks from our current location on Town St.

Another “packing party” yesterday completed the tearing down of the flamework shop. Volunteers organized and boxed up all of the lampwork and Boro tools, minor and major torches, oxygen and propane tanks, all in 90° weather - that’s some dedication right there!

While we are excited about the new Glass Center and all it will offer our community, moving a studio of this size with a hot shop is no small feat. BIG THANKS to our member volunteers, community volunteers, friends, and family who have dedicated countless hours to this task.

➡️ We are still looking for people to help out today and tomorrow, 10am - 6pm. ⬅️ Just show up in your grubbies, ask for Alex or Melody, and they’ll show you what needs done.

Keep your eyes on our page as we begin sharing our soft opening and grand opening dates and events. It’s going to be 🔥!

Congratulations to our very talented member Jim Delange and his glass art wavy bowl being presented to Governor DeWine!
