Sending peace and honor for a smooth journey to Hot Times Organizer Wahru who left us this morning
From Micki and Michelle
Despite knowing this was the eventual outcome last week, the loss of Wahru Cleveland is so painful and sad knowing the hole her presence no longer being here leaves in our community. A hole that can never be filled imho but we can honor her daily in so many ways. Beat your drums people.❤️😭💔
From Michele Waderker Winship posting today
On October 16, 2022, Wahru suffered a catastrophic cardiac event which resulted in 10 hours of open-heart surgery. Most people don’t survive a ruptured aorta, but Wahru is not most people. She fought back and after more then a week was weaned off of the ventilator. She was moving in a positive direction until Friday, October 28 when the graft failed and she began a steady decline. Today, at about 7 a.m. with Joyce by her side, Wahru passed peacefully into the waiting arms of her mother who greeted her with so much love.
Wahru’s passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts of those of us who have loved her, learned from her, performed with her and had the gift of sharing time and space with her in this lifetime. There will be a celebration of life during her birthday weekend (April1-2) when we can coordinate an event and have her OKC family and friends participate. In the meantime, play your drum for Wahru, sing a song for Wahru, read a poem out loud for Wahru, dance for Wahru, and most importantly, vote for Wahru and all that she stood for.
Wahru’s family and caretakers thank all of the staff at OSU East and the Ross Heart Hospital who tended to her so carefully, and thank you to all who have sent well wishes and prayers and offered assistance.
