Tony Stewart Speedway

Tony Stewart Speedway The go-kart track at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds has been in operation since the mid-1970s.
(4)

It was originally managed by a group of racing enthusiasts under the banner of the Columbus Karting Club. The track began as a quarter-mile horse track, known for its impressive speeds—and, unfortunately, sometimes violent accidents. In the 1980s, a smaller 1/5-mile track was built, incorporating turns one and two of the original layout. At its peak, the Columbus Karting Club was recognized as the

oldest operating kart club in the United States. In 2021, the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds honored racing legend Tony Stewart by dedicating the track in his name. Stewart, a Columbus native, began his racing career there, winning his first championship at just eight years old. He would go on to become a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and a 2020 inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. During the dedication ceremony, Stewart reflected on his roots:
“This is a proud moment for me, being from here, and I don’t think there’s anybody in the world who can say I forgot where I came from. Today’s proof of that,” Stewart said. “It’s where I’m always going to be, and it’s where my heart is.”

In 2024, Premier Motorsports Group signed a three-year lease to manage and promote the newly named Tony Stewart Speedway. They plan to enhance the facility by constructing a new race track, continuing the legacy of grassroots racing in Bartholomew County.

Due to unforeseen rainouts and the rescheduling of several major events coming to Columbus, we are left with only two points races on our schedule this season. We do not feel it is appropriate to crown a points champion at Tony Stewart Speedway based on only two races. Therefore, we have made the decision not to run a points championship this year.

However, we have been in discussions with James Jones and Jennings County Kart Track, and we are excited to announce that the TK3 Predator class will compete in a 5-race points series at Jennings County. Tony Stewart Speedway will also be funding the points package for the series.

We would like to thank Chops for opening up his track and working with us by utilizing his race dates and we have made some of our dates available if needed to help grow this class. We truly believe the TK3 Predator class represents the future of entry-level karting, and partnerships like this are vital to its continued growth.
In addition to the Jennings County points series, we will be hosting several cash races with 100% payback, giving racers an opportunity to test and prepare for some of the major events coming to Tony Stewart Speedway.

We are excited to work alongside Jennings County this season. They have built a strong program, and we believe everyone can agree that Chops runs an excellent points series. We look forward to working together this year and potentially expanding our partnership with future endeavors next season.
