Tony Stewart Speedway

Tony Stewart Speedway The go-kart track at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds has been in operation since the mid-1970s.
(3)

It was originally managed by a group of racing enthusiasts under the banner of the Columbus Karting Club. The track began as a quarter-mile horse track, known for its impressive speeds—and, unfortunately, sometimes violent accidents. In the 1980s, a smaller 1/5-mile track was built, incorporating turns one and two of the original layout. At its peak, the Columbus Karting Club was recognized as the

oldest operating kart club in the United States. In 2021, the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds honored racing legend Tony Stewart by dedicating the track in his name. Stewart, a Columbus native, began his racing career there, winning his first championship at just eight years old. He would go on to become a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and a 2020 inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. During the dedication ceremony, Stewart reflected on his roots:
“This is a proud moment for me, being from here, and I don’t think there’s anybody in the world who can say I forgot where I came from. Today’s proof of that,” Stewart said. “It’s where I’m always going to be, and it’s where my heart is.”

In 2024, Premier Motorsports Group signed a three-year lease to manage and promote the newly named Tony Stewart Speedway. They plan to enhance the facility by constructing a new race track, continuing the legacy of grassroots racing in Bartholomew County.

WOW! What a ride!

The dust has settled on an unforgettable three days at the KKM Giveback Race.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to Keith Kunz for believing in our facility and recognizing the potential to bring a world-class event to our track. His support and vision helped make this incredible weekend possible.

We also want to give special recognition to Klint Pursley for his relentless dedication and countless hours spent behind the controls of the grader, tractor, and skid steer. The work he put into shaping, grooming, and maintaining this track was nothing short of remarkable. The final product was something everyone involved can be proud of.

To Dewain Hulett and his staff,—this event simply does not happen without you. Your hard work, long hours, and commitment helped deliver a first-class experience for racers, teams, and fans alike. Thank you for making it all come together.

Now it’s time to turn the page and get ready for another action-packed weekend as Jamie Wheeler’s Midwest Race of Champions Prelude on Saturday, and Buddy Wilson’s TMKS roll into town on Sunday. The engines are about to fire once again, and we can’t wait to see everyone back at the track!

Night one of practice went very well. The track was in great shape, the cars were fast, and the energy was high all night long.

To be clear, we are not claiming that Kyle is coming here to race. We’re simply saying he’s bringing his kids, and he will be at the track — in what capacity, we don’t know. We’re excited that he wants his children to race at our track and in our town. 🏁

If you build it the best in the world may come, very exciting🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
