35 and thriving!

I cannot express how thankful I am to my Lord and Savior for a new chapter of life. Over the past year, he has been teaching me and giving me conviction about the following things:

1. Letting go: Letting go and dismissing unhealthy habits, thoughts and people who are mentally and emotionally draining and provide no positive purpose to me. God knows who and what needs to be in my life and discernment and conviction on your spirit are powerful things.

2. Trust and Surrender: Putting my complete trust in God and surrendering all my desires, requests and concerns to his feet. Letting him sit in the drivers seat for my story and letting his will, not mine be done.

3. Obedience and Patience: Obeying what God says and having the patience to wait for desires of my heart that line up with his will. I’ve learned that a delay is not a punishment, but part of the preparation. I cannot wait to meet my future spouse, the beautiful woman of God that he has in store for me.

I am so proud of the man that I’ve become, and I look forward to continuing to grow as a believer, in my career and as a business owner as well as making an impact in this life. Big blessings coming my way🎂🙏

God has put conviction on my heart recently to utilize the passion of my gifts and talents.

For those of you who have known me for a long time, you know that I have always had a love for art. I bought this sketchbook several years ago and haven’t had the urge to use it until today. Art has always been a way for me to express myself and to release stress and bring calmness and peace on my thoughts. Here’s one that I recently did of the mighty king of the jungle. I’m excited to start carving out more free time to focus on my artwork. I look forward to continuing to share one of the things I love with you all.

Mental health has admittedly been a struggle for me at numerous stages of my life, but I’ve been able to show resilience through the storms. Including this most recent one.

From the time I was a youngster, I realized that art wasn’t just a gift that I had, but also a way to express feelings and emotions. During my most recent treatment/recovery, other patients including myself practiced art therapy. The painting resembles praying hands under a sunny blue sky. The coloration of the hands show the diversity and variety of God’s children. The second artwork with markers represent the change of seasons. Rough times can often go from bad to worse (cold to really cold) before things become favorable again (warm and sunny).

I know they may look a little rusty as I haven’t consistently put time into art in a long time, but this year I want to find that fire and passion for it again. I also thank God for keeping me strong as better days are surely ahead🙏🎨

I want to share something very special to my heart for those of you who don’t know this part of my story.

From being a small child, I had a huge passion for arts and crafts. I remember sketching all sorts of things from athletes, to dinosaurs, to cartoon characters and so on. As far as crafts I have fond memories of making miniature sized roller coasters out of cardboard (I’m a big amusement park guy by the way). I remember being in second grade and entered a drawing contest at school and if I remember correctly, I sketched Michael Jordan as an angel in heaven with wings dunking a basketball. I ended up winning and a signed Columbus Crew soccer ball. That passion continued as I grew up and I would receive countless compliments from both classmates and teachers about my talents. One of my favorite teachers from middle school wrote an encouraging message in my seventh grade yearbook saying “I can’t wait to see you as a famous artist one day.” I continued this hobby up through sophomore year of high school and then I kind of phased away from it for a while. I played football and track in high school and that took up a lot of my time during those years.

During a season of my college journey, that passion started to fire up inside of me again and ended up taking an art class. I used all sorts of stuff from sketching pencils, to paint, to oil pastels, etc. After that class, I lost the desire for it again for a number of years. Three years ago I bought a sketchbook to get back into it during my free time, but I have yet to use it. Recently,I feel like God has put on my heart that I cannot let this talent go to waste.

Here is a montage of some of my work from my season as a student at Ohio State and Westerville Central High School. I have the intentions to re-commit to this hobby of mine and share it with all of you. Please follow, share, and invite people to this journey.
