The Elves🌿🧝🏼‍♀️
Diademed with thyme and with rosemary, The Elves upon the plain dance merrily.
From woodland paths known to no living wight, On a darkling horse rides a noble knight.
His golden spurs flash in the midnight gloom;
As he passes through a ray of the moon One sees fleeting reflections in the elms, On his golden hair, from his silver helm.
Diademed with thyme and with rosemary, The Elves upon the plain dance merrily.
They in their dainty host the knight surround, With silent feet that barely brush the ground.
—O gallant knight, by this evening serene, Where goest thou so late? asks the young Elf-Queen.
The wood is the haunt of spirits and fauns:
Come dance with me, rather, on dew-fresh lawns.
Diademed with thyme and with rosemary, The Elves upon the plain dance merrily.
—No! ‘Tis for my betrothed who waits 1 ride, And who on the morrow will be my bride.
Then suffer me to pass, Elves of the plain, Sprung up like fairy-rings after the rain.
Keep me not from my love; I must away, For I sense the first rising light of day.
Diademed with thyme and with rosemary, The Elves upon the plain dance merrily.
