At long last, it's here! “Dark Matters” is a new seven-minute work commissioned by the Capital University Choral Department and the Capital University Conservatory of Music. This powerful piece written for choir and piano by poet Samiya Bashir and composer Joel Thompson and performed by the Capital University Chapel Choir and Capital University Choral Union with Alexandre Marr on piano, was premiered on April 29, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. in Mees Hall. This collaboration began in July, 2020, in response to an extremely difficult moment in time. "Dark Matters" delves into the depths of our shared human experience. It acknowledges our struggles and ultimately calls upon us to strive for a brighter, more just world. For a better understanding of this meaningful work, watch the video and see program notes written by the conductor, poet and composer. Friends everywhere, but especially in the choral world, I wholeheartedly encourage you to listen to this piece and consider it for your ensembles in the future. It will challenge you and change you. (Note: It's not yet publicly published - stay tuned.)
