I was 12 years old. It was a hot summer day around 5:00 pm and I was playing in the back yard.

My dad ducked his head out the back door, "Hey, Jim, you wouldn't guess who died."

My heart sank. If my dad took the time to tell me, It had to be someone I loved. I worried it was one of The Beatles.

As I sheepishly shook my head, my dad told me, "Elvis Presley."

I became quiet and sad. I didn't know what to think. This was the first time that a celebrity I actually cared about had departed. It was also the seed that sparked my musical curiosity and made me the Rockabilly fan I am today.

Once I started playing at 15, Duane Eddy was truly my first guitar hero. Hardly a virtuoso, his bass string twang was very haunting. I wanted to sound the same.

Echoes of Mr. Eddy may be heard in my own instrumental, "Stockholm Surfer."

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy-winning artist Duane Eddy had a long music career, including a breakthrough song with Lee Hazlewood.

Many of you know that I decided to break up The Molars at the end of 2023. I was burned out from the constant turnover of members. This is the first time that I haven't felt a desperate rush to get back into a permanent band situation. I am working on original tunes and jamming with Zachary to help him develop into a more solid drummer. I hope to record a few of these songs before I decide upon anything more permanent. I am merely recharging my muse.
