Weed Demon, Columbus, OH's progenitors of the slow, dark, & heavies are back with 'Astrological Passages', their follow up to 2015's EP 'Stoned to Death.' If this is your first introduction to Weed Demon, get ready to meet the gateway drug to all things sludge. The new record continues to blend doom, stoner, & psych metal in the vein of bands like Monolord and Dopethrone. But where they stand apar
t is their ability to lay down a metric ton of heaviness. Don't get me wrong, the aforementioned bands are heavy as f**k, but Weed Demon are just dropping lower and turning the volume up higher than their counterparts. The low end is the continual driving force of the record with all instruments tuned down somewhere close to hell. Void of the monotony that can be problematic for some doom bands, this record sinks it's crystalized little hooks deep into your brain with long drawn-out stoner rock solos right before tearing into some seriously heavy riffs (see Sigial of the Black Moon & Jettisoned.). In a brutal twist of fate, there's even a cover of 'Damage Case' by some band you may have heard of, Motorhead, coupled with an audio clip from Adam Sandler & Brendan Frasers' undoubtedly best movie ever, 'Airheads.'
Do yourself a favor and ignore everything you were told in D.A.R.E., light the proverbial J, and crank 'Astrological Passages' way the f**k up.
