As I always say, guys, it’s not this serious— just relax!
In all efforts to be transparent with our pricing, we decided to share the reasons behind recent controversy in our store. There’s been some confusion in regards to our ability to sell NEEDOH and other dumplings. We are a small family business, we are not an authorized retailer so therefore we do not have the ability to get them and sell for $5- $7 like other big box stores.
Believe me, if we could get them all that cheap, there would be no reason to sell them, because they’d be available everywhere!
We began the journey into squishies and dumplings and Needoh, just like other people do, because of our own kids. Our six girls, ages 4-17 introduced us to the craze and just like all of you, we got really tired of going from store to store and hearing “sold out” over and over again and seeing our kids disappointed. We couldn’t find them, so we turned to online, where prices are double and triple and 10x the amount of the big box stores. We shop sites like Faire, eBay, Poshmark, and others where prices for Needoh are no where near $5- $7.
Supply and demand.
All of the Needohs in store were purchased from second sellers online, and after authenticity is established, we offer them for sale inside our toy section. In efforts of be transparent, because our family has been accused of overcharging and being money hungry, we decided to disclose our pricing.
We pay $15-$20 per Needoh, and we sell them $18-$23. Our mark up is $3. Our bulk packs are purchased for between $25-$30, we sell them for $30-$35. Our mark up is $5. Our dumplings were purchased for $8, and we have resold for $10. Our mark up is $2. We are not getting rich off others or scheming anyone— we are not out buying all the inventory in stores to overcharge. We are just a small business, charging a convenience fee so others aren’t chasing these silly little viral toys or getting scammed with counterfeit.
If you want convenient, come shop with us.
If you want to call the big box stores and drive from store to store and find them cheaper, DO IT. As busy parents just like a lot of our customers, we got tired of trying to do that and found a solution for us, and then we have been trying to pass that solution onto other kids and families. Our kids LOVE them and are obsessed! (Let’s be real— so are us adults and staff alike)!
If you don’t want to invest all your time and gas into driving all over, then come shop with us for all things NEEDOH (and for other brands with us or EVEN just to come play)!
If you don’t want to do that and have the time to track down cheaper options, DO THAT!
Our business remains family first, and we do our best to be affordable, and customer centered. We’re sorry if our pricing offended anyone. That was never our intention. Our goal is making childhood great— our kids get one chance at childhood and we’ll always be focused on making that magic happen!
There are people I’m sure out buying them for $5 and reselling for $50, but that isn’t us— and it never will be!
If you have any further questions or need clarification, please reach out to me personally. I’m always in the facility or available by email. My door is always open. It has never been about money to me— it’s about memories and our pricing will always reflect that!
Thanks,
Tedi Ellis, Owner
… and if you’re still looking to be offended, blame these two girls (our oldest daughters who got us hooked in the first place)!
