It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of one of our DanceAbility Dancer's, Ellie Hanney.
While she has always been a true warrior, unicorn, sparkly, ballet princess, she was not able to fight off a recent infection and has "gone to be with the angels" as her family described it, on her Caring Bridge Update.
We know she touched many lives and we will always carry a piece of her in our hearts every time we dance.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you need to and keep her precious family in your thoughts in the days to come.

RSIA 2022 Program Highlights: School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet and Southeast Conservatory Dance!
For advanced students ages 11–19, the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet (MCB) offers one or two week sessions with a variety of classes that include Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Pilates, improvisation, strength and conditioning, nutrition and injury prevention. Attendees will also have the chance to learn MCB company repertoire, have new works created on them, and finish each week with a short showcase.
Dancers (ages 12 to college) will be challenged technically and artistically through a variety of classes taught by Southeast dance faculty and other professional artists. In addition to daily ballet class, students will study modern and jazz techniques and have the opportunity to experience additional classes including pointe, aerial arts, ballroom and hip-hop. The Conservatory intensive offers individualized dance instruction and will introduce young dancers to numerous different dance styles improving their technique and performance abilities. An informal concert showcase of newly created dance works will take place at the end of the week for parents and friends to enjoy. Students about to enter their senior year in high school, recently completed their senior year in high school, or students wishing to transfer to Southeast Missouri State University may use the intensive as their audition to the BA dance program.

Let us take a moment to say one last farewell before we step back into the studio this week...
Alice Wells is one of the kindest individuals we have had the pleasure of welcoming into our family over the years. After dancing with MCB for the last four seasons, she is moving on to the next life adventure. We know she will bring light to others every step of the way.
Her positive attitude in combination with her exquisite technique is what makes Alice a gorgeous dancer. While we have all enjoyed watching her perform, her strengths extend far beyond the stage! She has been instrumental in helping teach and manage the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet as well as their social media to which we are forever grateful!

Before we can say hello to our 16th season, we must say a heartfelt farewell...
Almost seven years ago, Kay Whitney began as an apprentice with MCB. Who could have known then that she would become the amazing and strong woman she is today? Performance after performance she has wowed us with her presence and movement. Off stage she inspired the students of MCB to work hard and achieve their goals but have fun while doing it. We were most fortunate that Kay was able to step in and serve as the Director for the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet when the position opened up and her work with our DanceAbility students will never be forgotten. We know she will continue to touch the lives of those around her no matter the situation!

We are so excited to officially announce the addition of Sasha Butman and Kendall Lademann to our company!
Kendall danced for the School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet and was a member of the MCB Youth Ensemble as a young adult. We are so pleased that she has chosen to continue her dance career with the MCB family. While Sasha recently relocated from New Jersey, she has strong ties to the community as well. This led her to take part in our online audition this past December and we feel so lucky to have her!
Both of these women are truly gifted in the art of contemporary ballet and will be an asset to us on stage and off.
Did you know??
The School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet was voted Hulafrog Columbia, MO's "2021 Most Loved Dance Studio!" Thank you so much to everyone who voted and those who show constant support throughout our community. Without you, and the amazing MCB company dancers who teach for the school, this would not be possible. We are also so grateful to have Jennifer Adelstein Highbarger and a large group of volunteers who make programs like DanceAbility and DanceReach a reality. Thank you everyone ❤

Thank you to this COVID Crusher, School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet for helping keep our community as safe as possible during the pandemic! Check out what a community member had to say about The School of Missouri Contemporary Ballet below.
“Since March, the School of MCB has been very responsive to local and National guidelines to keep their students and teachers safe. They have been flexible with class schedules and options for in person or zoom (starting in person when allowed). They have enhanced cleaning procedures and adapting their teaching styles to allow maximum learning while being safe. They have been very open with frequent communication about the dance year and have worked hard to keep our students in the studio when safe. I’m so thankful for the time and attention the teachers have given the students this summer and fall, even when their own season was cancelled due to Covid-19.”
Do you know of a business, organization or individual in Boone County that exemplifies the recommendations for slowing the spread of COVID-19? If so, we want to hear about them! Let us know who in our community is doing a good job to decrease the risk of spreading the virus and tell us why they are a COVID Crusher! https://forms.gle/bczVA9xfLJLdzD1M8
