The Rotary Club presented its case for the restoration of the bandshell in Acacia Park to the Colorado Springs City Council during a work session Monday morning.

Rotary Club President Trevor Dierdorff presented the proposal to revitalize the historic performance space along with partners from the nonprofit Downtown Ventures and the city Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. Dierdorff said the city needed a new outdoor venue for small and mid-size performances as a draw for downtown.

“What we’re building is important — a fully reactivated bandshell in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. A place where people choose to gather, not avoid. A place where strangers become neighbors and neighbors become friends,” Dierdorff said.

Acacia Park Bandshell Project Update:
This past Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs delivered a presentation to the board of the Colorado Springs Urban Renewal Authority regarding the proposed Acacia Park Bandshell project and broader park improvements.

As Rotary explores ways to help revitalize Acacia Park, we want the community to know that transparency, openness, and accountability are central to this effort.

At this stage, discussions are preliminary and exploratory. The project remains in the early planning phase, and no final development plans, project scope, or cost estimates have been determined.

Our goal in sharing these conversations early is simple: to keep the public informed as ideas are explored and partnerships are considered.

The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs is excited about the possibility of helping lead a grassroots, community-driven effort to strengthen Acacia Park as a welcoming and vibrant gathering space in the heart of downtown.

As planning evolves, we are committed to open dialogue with community members, city partners, and stakeholders, ensuring that any future plans reflect both community input and responsible stewardship of resources.

More information will be shared as discussions continue and additional details become available.

MEDIA ADVISORY / PHOTO OPPORTUNITY - Rotary Club Uses St. Patrick’s Day Parade to Share Vision for Revived Acacia Park

Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs will host a community outreach booth during the city’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities to share information about the Rotary Bandshell Project, an effort to restore and activate the historic bandshell in Acacia Park as a central hub for concerts, performances, and community events.

Families and parade-goers can stop by to learn about the project while enjoying festive giveaways including toy kettles, gummy rainbows, chocolate coins, and shamrock stickers.

The Rotary Bandshell Project aims to bring more than 100 days of community programming each year to Acacia Park starting the summer of 2027, transforming the historic downtown stage into a vibrant gathering place for music, culture, and civic celebrations.
