Tomorrow night, the wait is finally over.
Princess Polly makes her public debut. š¦ Iām SO excited!
I named this five-foot butterfly after my mom, Polly.
When I designed her, I used the same colors on both sides of her wingsābut inverted them.
Same palette. Different expression.
I didnāt plan some grand meaning behind that choice. But looking at her finished now, I canāt help thinking there is something fitting about it.
We all have different sides of ourselvesāthe parts the world sees easily and the parts that sometimes take longer to emerge.
My momās life didnāt always give her the freedom to fully express who she was or do all the things she dreamed of doing.
But those parts of her were still there.
The colors were there all along.
And now, in this chapter of her life, she is being asked to stretch herself in ways she has never known beforeāto adapt, to trust, and to find her way through a life she never imagined.
When I look at this enormous, colorful butterflyāthe piece that challenged me, demanded patience, changed along the way, and eventually became something more beautiful than I could have ever imaginedāI see my mom.
Princess Polly is my way of giving her colors a chance to fly.
She deserves a butterfly. In fact, she deserves a five-foot one.
Join me tomorrow as Princess Polly finally spreads her wings at the final Acacia Bandshell Summer Concert of the season.
