Jessy recorded the whole thing on her cell phone. She bought a rum cake for the birthday celebration and decided not to tell her brother what was inside.
He ate it without suspecting a thing. He had been sober for five years, five years built day by day through therapy, discipline and a constant resolve never to touch a drop of alcohol again. When his sister finally confessed that the cake contained rum, his body reacted before his mind didn he began to struggle for breath, panic rose in his throat and his face filled with an anguish that needed no subtitles. What many people don't realize is that these cakes are often soaked in rum syrup after baking, meaning the alcohol never fully evaporates.
