Shock waves disregulated my nerves.
Healing colors restored my creative heart.

My silent art prayer screamed volumes. No words could ever express a mother’s anguish when the promise of motherhood dies at the roots.

Channeling e-motion, I slung a big paint brush full of hot pink paint. Over time my palette softened, and I gave up wishing the phone would ring.

I would love to connect with you at the ​RE/Collection exhibition​ at East Carolina University September 4 & 5.

I'm excited to have New Earth Goddess Portal III, my new mixed media painting included in the alumni exhibition at Wellington B. Gray Gallery, Jenkins Fine Arts Center.

Jenkins Center was built AFTER I graduated - when Dr. Gray was Dean of the Art School. I took his course in American Art History!

This is such an important honor because of its history. It marks the New Earth Series, through which I first felt the shift in this new energy coming through, and my own history as an artist as well.

As a teenager in 1969, when visiting Altamira in Northern Spain, I felt this deep connection via cave paintings I encountered. The feeling of standing in the footprints of a prehistoric goddess never left me.

This year painting my New Earth Goddess Portal Series brought her through at a time when we (and the whole world) need her more than ever!

The exhibition painting IS AVAILABLE!!! You can purchase directly through me. After the exhibition, we'll ship it to you along with provenance from the exhibition.

Q. As younger collectors enter the market and digital platforms reshape how art is discovered, what do you hope remains deeply personal – or even wonderfully old-fasuioned – about the experience of collecting art?

A. I love that technology has made art more accessible. Younger collectors can discover an artist on Instagram or through an online art marketplace, see how a piece may look in their home before purhcasing it, and compare options side by side.

But I hope we never lose the personal dimension of buying art. Some of my best moments come from simply sitting with a client, talking about what they are drawn to and why, and introducing them to artists whose work I think they will love. That kind of connection cannot be automated.

This painting titled Tango in the Heartland is part of my Land of Plenty series. I began the series in the early 1980s with paintings like Mist in My Heart, and Resting Place.

In this one, my heart is engaged in a sexy dance with the creatrix! My relationship with creativity has transformed since the 80s, now I talk to the paintings and they talk back to me.

My conversation is not so many words, rather feelings, questions, colors, gritty textures. I've developed my own language. An extension of my dream language, symbols are many layered, interpretive, humorous.

A painting doesn't have to be pretty, it has to have heart, truth. honesty.

That's me with Zipper. She's my studio companion. She follows me from the studio to the garden all day.

The painting we are sitting on is called Taking Off. It feels like a flock of birds!

I paint emotional colors, my Splash Scribble method has developed slowly over the years. Painting has been a healing process for me, healing from a life-threatening assault 35 years ago.

Using art to heal, no one told me how to do it. I started and stopped along the way.

Now I've written about my experience. The arc of my healing story plays out across my paintings over fifty years. You can see it for yourself; in Sanctuary, The Land of Plenty, and Flourish series works. Decade by decade, my style has evolved to meet each emotional moment.

Self expression heals us. When we hold it in, it eats us alive.

Emotions come in groups, conglomerates - not alone. I screamed with color and strokes. This released the trauma, transfoming it into things of beauty, and relieving me as well.

Where would you prefer to engage with a richly textured painted textile collage— up close to see the details? Or across the room where you can step back for the full effect?

Life size works make a small space feel larger, not the other way around.

Filling the wall can feel like an upholstered wall or mural.

I love to play with challenging spaces. The first example mirrors the picture window— with an interior garden.

The second example repeats the vertical of the window with a portal.

Either way, the choice matches each individual.

That’s me in my Virginia studio by the pond. The pond influences all my paintings, she's how I feel the flow.

The waters in my pond come from two woodland streams, which are fed by ground waters from the Appalachian highlands. All the water flows east.

My pond flows into Queen's Creek, which flows into the Pinakatank River where she meets Hills Bay and the Chesapeake. This connects my little studio on the pond to all the flow of the largest estuary in North America and the Atlantic Ocean.

The painting on my right (New Earth: Aquifer IV, 72" x 38") speaks of the brackish waters where we flow in a confluence of fresh and salt water.

The painting on my left ( Solstice Sunset, 60" x 48") began as a river. In her first iteration, titled Vibrant Flow, in her second iteration titled, The River Flows Through Her, and now turned vertically she stands tall with the healing message of my art.

I've painted in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed for fifty years. My lifetime of paintings tell the story of healing with earth.

That’s me taking dictation from Mother Earth. She speaks in soft emotional twinges.

In this case, she’s speaking in an iridescent greenish bronze. She feels different than she has felt before. I’ve been listening for decades, but never heard this super earthy iridescence before.

I’ve been wondering what is different?

And then I saw the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s warning about the urgent threat to our coastal aquifer. At first I thought it was a hoax - it’s NOT!

Data centers use so much water, we need to rethink AI. Human intelligence far outweighs this and we need to work together to solve this.
