new Song Dynasty shoudao (手刀) has arrived—handmade in China for use with the Silk Road Cultural Collective’s historical-costume presentations, cultural programming, and future film projects. Inspired by the broad, single-edged military sabers carried by Song soldiers for close-quarters defense, it features a long wooden grip, ring pommel, stout blade, and fitted scabbard. Looking forward to bringing more living-history detail to our community events.

One thing I did notice because it is handmade the scabbard is very tight when having the sword in. Will need to fix it a bit.

Chinese Jiǎn (鐧) — Historical Replica
This Chinese jiǎn, or “iron jiǎn,” is a four-sided bar mace associated with the Jin–Tang warrior tradition. Unlike a cutting sword, it was designed to deliver powerful blows against armor, shields, and enemy weapons.
Fans of the Detective Dee / Di Renjie films will recognize this weapon style as the Kànglóng Jiǎn (亢龍鐧), or Dragon-Taming Mace—an imperial symbol of justice, loyalty, and protection of the Tang Empire.

A striking historical replica inspired by the heroic Sui–Tang era and the legendary warriors of China’s past.

An authentic, handmade historical replica of a Bohai (Balhae) helmet will be part of the Silk Road Cultural Collective’s historical armor collection. Bohai flourished across Northeast Asia from 698–926 CE, and this riveted iron helmet reflects the military world of the Late Tang frontier. It also connects to the later Liao, Jin, and Goryeo eras, when Bohai people, craft traditions, and military influences continued across Manchuria and Korea.

Our newest Authentic Handmade Historical Replica has arrived at Silk Road Cultural Collective!

This lamellar armor represents the broader 12th–13th century East Asian military tradition, when similar armor was used across neighboring cultures:

⚔️ Song Dynasty (960–1279) — Chinese soldiers & cavalry
⚔️ Jurchen Jin (1115–1234) — Jurchen warriors & cavalry
⚔️ Goryeo Korea (918–1392) — Korean warriors
⚔️ Mongol Empire (13th century) — Mongol warriors & cavalry

With different helmets and headgear, we can explore how this armor can be presented in different historical contexts.

One armor. Four cultures. A shared history.
